Is it all worth it???

Recommended Posts

Lets see 21 months out down 110 lbs. Without lapband I would be 300+ lbs and miserable! For the 1st time since I was 18 I am almost out of the 200s!!! I have never been happier in my life than I am now. It's been tough letting go out my relationship with food. On top of it being a physical journey it's also been a mental one but it's been well worth it!

I'm about 10 days out from being banded. I've been reading all the stories about what you can eat and what you cant eat or drink. My question is of all you people that have been banded for awhile, would you do it again????

Even on the tough days...absolutely 100% Yes!!!

YES, YES, YES! I would do it again. My 1 yr anniversary is 12/11/10. My weight loss has been clow and steady. My diabetes is sooo much better, I feel soo much better and though I am still over 300 pounds (My highest weight was 382) I haven't been at this weight for over 25 yrs! "The future looks bright..I gotta wear shades."

Best 17K I ever spent!

I'd do it again in a heartbeat--it was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

So far, it's been totally worth it. The nicest thing for me is the fact that I'm not thinking about food ALL THE TIME. I'm sure I think about it more than the average person, but it's not such an all consuming fixation anymore.

DITTO!!!

Once you get used to the new way your body will insist that you eat, it becomes habit. I no longer pile my plate full of food.< /p>

Just last night, my hubby and I were sharing a steak. He cut about 3 oz. of meat off for me and I looked at it and said, "oh wow, that's a HUGE piece of meat!" Prior to banding, I could eat an 8 oz. steak on my own. Last night, I didn't finish it. I ate what I could, felt my "satisfied" signal, and I was done.

It takes time to get used to it. My mouth battled with my brain for a time. My mouth and appetite were used to a certain amount of chewing and sensation with a meal; suddenly they weren't getting that amount before my pouch was done. My mouth wanted MORE! But over time, my brain got retrained to understand that the smaller portions are the correct amount, and my mouth is OK with it.

Now that the adjustment period is over, yeah, I'd do it again in a heart beat.

I may have lost a few food choices, but I have gained so much. Normal to low blood pressure (lost blood pressure medication). Normal cholesterol (lost cholesterol medication). Improved blood sugar. More energy. Fit comfortably in airplane seats. Cheaper restaurant bills (hubby and I share). Don't feel like people are looking at what I am eating and judging me. I blend in with a crowd. I am not always the largest person in a room. I can walk much farther because the arthritis in my hips and knees doesn't hurt so much. Size 10 clothes, down from size 20W.

Yes, I'll give up chicken breast, soft bread, and large portions for that. :wink2:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
