Is this what restriction feels like?

Recommended Posts

I was just banded 10/25. Today my pain has been minimal, the belching has subsided somewhat and my constant coughing has stopped. BUT I constantly feel like I just finished a huge meal, that tight, belt around your diaphram feeling. I am on Clear Liquids only and am trying to space them throughout the day but this full feeling has me on the verge of nausea with a lump in the back of my throat. I even took a long walk today to see if the feeling would pass and it didn't. Is this was restriction feels like? I am hoping some may still be swelling but I'm not sure.

Im sure most of what you are feeling is swelling. My band was put in empty and I remember feeling the way you are describing. However I am now 3.5 weeks out and STARVING.. I dont get my first fill for 2 more weeks and cant wait. Some of the uncomfortableness is probably from gas also, I used a heating pad constantly for those first few days. Good Luck!

I never had any of that after surgery. You might check with your doctor to make sure he didn't put any fill in during surgery. So many seem to be doing that lately. Most likely, you're just feeling the effects of swelling from surgery. If you can drink Water, I'd wait it out for a few more days. If you can't, talk to him immediately.

I would call your surgeon. I experienced the exact same thing two days after I was banded, he had me to into his office and get an unfill. I had no idea he had filled to 3.5 cc's when he placed the band. The unfill did the trick.

Good luck on your journey~

Thanks for all of your input. I am thinking that it some of this feeling must be swelling because each day it is getting better. I am able to get Water down and the clear Protein Drinks as long as I sip and take it slow. Yesterday and today I even had a Decaf tea and a decaf coffee with a little fat free milk and was able to drink about half a cup of each so I know things are going down. I also found that sucking on a hard cinnamon candy seems to soothe the feeling. I go back to the doctor in 4 more days so since it is getting better I will wait and talk to him then. I have no idea if I was filled at surgery or not. Prior I was told that I would not have a fill, but soo much of that day was different than what I was told so who knows! LOL I can't tell you how helpful the members of this site have been to me on this journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
