I was banded on 10/21. The first week was supposed to be a pure liquid diet. My dr wanted me to drink 2 oz h2o and 2 oz of Isopure Protein Water. I had a really hard time doing that, I hated the Isopure and it took me 2 days to finish one bottle of the Isopure, each bottle has 40g of protein. so at the very most I was only getting 20g, if that, of protein. My dr said i need to have 65g of protein per day. Today I was able to start soft foods, so this morning I made some egg beaters and added some unflavored whey, it was disgusting, i took one bite and threw it away, and opted for a yogurt instead. It has taken me over an hour to eat 1/2 of the yogurt. I am really starting to worry about nutrition. I don't see how I am possibly ever going to meet the 65g of protein per day. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the proper nutrients? What did you do? :sneaky:

Most people at this stage are still on a liquid diet. If you are finding it hard to get down the things that your Dr has recommended try going back to liquids. Protein shakes, thin Soups, fruit and veggie juices etc. The focus at this stage is on healing not weight loss so generally it is OK to drink things such as juice which are not recommended later on.

If you are struggling with the yogurt try thinning it out a little with some extra milk.

Early on, it's really hard to meet our nutritional requirements. Luckily, our bodies have reserves---and the short term lack of nutrients really doesn't pose a risk.

You will build up to being able to get what you need.

It's really worth finding a Protein that isn't gross, though. I'm 9 months out, and still rely on Protein supplements. I love the Inspire protein from bariatriceating.com in Dutch chocolate Cake; I mix it with almond milk. Another favorite is the PURE unflavored protein (also from bariatriceating.com).

Also make sure you have a good-quality bariatric Multivitamin designed to meet the needs of people with bands.

When I on the pre-op diet and when I first had the surgery I drank the Atkins Protein Shakes. Thats what I drank during the liquid stage and I just couldn't stomach them after that. Then I found the Oh Yeah! RTD Protein shakes. OMG! They are just awesome! I can't have chocolate but I LOVE the vanilla creme and the strawberry is awesome. I'm so excited now because it comes in the big container in a powder. Its new! I ordered one a few days ago and I love it!! I was afraid it wouldn't taste the same but it does! I mix it with skim milk and it is just awesome. Finally a Protein Shake that I like! Good luck!

In the very beginning it is not so east to get 65 gr of Protein in. But my menu had me eating something (4-6 oz) every hour, including 4-5 Protein Shakes a day. I could only drink 3. But u can have cream Soups (no lumps), yogurt, sf Jello, sf pudding, popcicles, applesauce, etc. I use the Bariatric Advantage choc and vanilla shakes and they are very good, 27 gr protein for 8 0z shake.
