Anyone take Lyrica?

Recommended Posts

My doctor switched me from dilantin to Lyrica for seizure control and the Lyrica had other benefits so that's been great. However, I went on it after having been at my goal weight for 4 months and then in January I had a sciatic injury that helped me gain 15 pounds back. I've lost 7 of that, but can't seem to lose the remaining 8-10 to get back to my original goal. I'm pretty much doing the same things that helped my success, but seem to be in a huge rut. Now, I shouldn't complain, I'm still at a weight that is pretty good, but just where I want to be. I'm wanting to blame the Lyrica as weight gain is one of the side effects.

I was taking Lyrica before I had the surgery. After a couple of weeks of having the surgery, I felt so much better so I stopped taking Lyrica. One of the side of affects of Lyrica is weight gain. I noticed that pre-surgery and complained to my dr. about it. We tried another medication but it did not work as well as Lyrica.

I take have take lyrica for a couple of years and in those two years gained a ton of weight. It sucks. The medicine is great for my nerve pain-due to Muscular Dystrophy. It is the only thing that has helped. I have tried to stop taking it, but can barely make it through the day when I do. I think unfortunately the side effect is a significant one-at least for me. I'm still taking it. I have lost a little.

i too take Lyrica. What a great medication. I am taking it for several reasons, including a neck disc that exploded and caused spinal damage. I think with the med, you need to move in order to burn those cals. I am right after my neuro surgery and barely eat anything...and barely losing anything either. i'll keep you in my thoughts! Try an indoor pool.

I took Lyrica for RA pain and promptly gained 4 lbs. I told my dotor that I couldn't deal with that so switched to Cymbalta. It takes a while for Cymbalta to kick in but it is working well finally. It has one unfortunate side effect...it tends to curb the appetite. Guess I'll just have to live with that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
