Healthy traveling snacks

Recommended Posts

I just got my first fill Tuesday and I am heading to Washington DC in about a week and a half to take the kids to all the museums and the White House. I'm worried about the availability of 'safe' foods while we are out and I don't want to have to stop and seek them out while we are cruising the museums. What are some low carb, not easily stuck foods that I should take with me? My usual Snacks would be fruit bars, granola bars, peanuts, or crackers, but those are either to high in carbs which I am avoiding like the plague or not very filling. I'm bringing packets of Muscle Milk for Breakfast in case I can't get something at the hotel. I can bring those in a backpack, but there is no guarantee that I can get milk(I have to mix with milk or it tastes horrible) in a bottle to shake it up.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Melissa

Labrada Rock 'n Roll nutty peanut bars are good--and pack a good Protein punch (20 g/bar, I think; I can only eat half a bar at a time)

Nuts are a good choice--low carb, though more of a fat than a Protein

I think you'll probably find it pretty easy to find "safe" Snacks on the go---I'd pack a pouch of PURE unflavored protein to stir into things like yogurt, which you can pick up in any concession place or corner store.

i adore fruits for snacks.Banana could keep my satisfied for at least 2 hours when i did not have restriction. Also i loved all kinds of dried fruits (i can not have them with 8cc anymore)

You can carry them in your bag pretty easily and you can encourage kids to try them also!

I find low carb Protein Bars are great when I'm on the go. I like Atkins. Also, cheese sticks are another thing I pack. They are good for a few hours out of the fridge. I agree with nuts as well (almonds are very healthy- I eat 1/4c at a time). Beef Jerky is another option, lots of protien and very low in fat. Enjoy your trip!

emerald has 100 cal packs of almonds.

jack links has 50 cal packs of Jerky (teriyaki steak).

I sometimes buy the pre-sliced apples & caramel Snacks.. and throw away the caramel.. they come packaged separately. I agree with above poster than cheese sticks do well w/o refrigeration for a good long time.

thinking....

boiled eggs might be ok for a few hours. you could pack them with a "blue ice" thingy to keep them cool.

I sometimes think we obsess about keeping things "cool or cold" too much in this country. Of course it depends on the food....but I grew up in a household that never refrigerated Mayonnaise and in the deep south w/o a/c!! No doubt I refrigerate it now.. but my mom never did and we didn't get ill. Were we just lucky? I don't know.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
