I was banded on october 21. I have been on full liquids for 7 days. I am supposed to start "pureed food tomorrow" What the heck is that? Is there a difference between pureed and soft foods? oatmeal was on my list of full liquids and that seems thicker than pureed. I am really confused. Please help.

Hey band buddy! I was banded 10/21 as well:)

My 7 day diet was broth & protien shakes only-i would have loved some oatmeal!

I think everyones diets are so different from thier doctors it is hard to know. I am now on a pureed diet and that means anything I dont have to to chew (oatmeal, mashed potato, cream Soup no lumps, yogurt). Soft will need some chewing...like mashed Beans, super cooked veg, chicken salad)

Thats interesting bandbuddy because my list of "full liquid" included yogurt, cream Soups, pudding. So I guess that is why the "pureed" thing is confusing me. how is it different.

By the way how are you feeling?

I would call you doctors office for advice. On your ""full liquid" included yogurt, cream Soups, pudding"; the only thing I could have was cream soups. Everything else waited until the week 3. My doctor did not really refer to it as mushie so I think for him mushie and soft foods were the same thing.

I have the list of appropriate foods for each phase. I know it sounds strange. I just called the DR. to ask about the pureed thing. The nurse said they want me to eat soft food that you mash up with a fork first. she said egg salad, chicken salad, eggs, potato's etc. MAn, these doctors all have their own method.

I was banded the same day. I have been on Clear Liquids. I am just now venturing into full liquids. I wasnt really given a diet to go by. The things that i have read here have helped. Thanks everyone. :sneaky:

I've been banded 21 days now and still on pureed foods. At my first Dr visit, he said my 'teeth' are my best blender. I liked that and have stopped pureeing things with a blender. I just chew it until it is pureed in my mouth before I swallow. :sneaky:

Tonight I had mushy catfish and a little mushy potato. I was very nervous. It went down well. I only ate a very little bit. I feel almost like a real person again. I am supposed to stay on pureed/mushy until I see my doctor next week. At that time he will give me further instructions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
