Psych Evaluation

Recommended Posts

Ok so I took the psych evaluation last week and after answering 565 questions I felt completely insane!! I walked in feeling and thinking I was pretty normal, but after 565 true/false questions, you will begin to wonder too. Now I'm ready to choke the doctor and her staff for dragging their feet about sending the info to my surgeon.

My plan is to have the procedure done no later than mid to late November, and since I have a lower BMI (35.7) I can't risk doing any exercise or cutting back on any food or else I won't qualify!!! Yes I know I'm griping about nothing but it's something at the moment in my mind.

Did any of you feel this way following the psych evaluation? Share your experience!!

Thanks for reading.

Wow. My psych eval was very, very different than yours. Mine was a friendly interview that lasted about 20 minutes. We talked about where I've been in my weight loss life, how I feel about having surgery, and whether I know how things will be different after surgery. There was no questionnaire to fill out. He signed off on things, and that was that. Hmm...

I filled out forty-eleven questionnaires and had an hour interview with the doctor, with a followup to discuss the findings. I thought it was interesting and pretty plain to see what the "correct" v. "suspect" answers were. More than once I said, "I know the expected answer is A but I chose C because..."

Figured I might as well get the insurance company's money's worth.

My experience was also vastly different from what you experienced. The session lasted about an hour or hour and a half and it was such a friendly, laid back thing. The psychiatrist I had also had Bariatric surgery herself (she had GP surgery) and so I think that made a huge difference in how she dealt with the session. She was awesome and we just sat and talked about my past with weight loss and gain, what I expect from lapband surgery, health, my relationships with family and loved ones as far as a support system goes, etc.

I liked her so much that I asked her if she would be willing to take me on as a regular patient and she said yes and my surgeon agrees it will be a good idea for me to start seeing her. So I need to call and get set up for an appointment to start.

Same.

But then the bugger said he thought I had A.D.D

I still quallified, but in the end it was pretty good to hear that a problem I've had most of my life is actually curable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
