I am currently researching the lap band in general. I would like to get the procedure, but I do not know if I would be able to obtain the financing. I have blue cross blue shield. I have read they can go either way. I have a BMI of 41, but suffer no additional health problems. However, if I stay at this weight I eventually will. I have some questions for those going through or who have went through the process...

1. What kind of hoops do I have to go through?

2. IF insurance covers 80 percent of it, do they also cover the tests/hoops I will go through such as the nutritionist, blood work, psycho. eval. etc.?

Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks:smile2:

It dependson your policy. My insurance covered all test and appointments except for the nutritionist. They only cover it for cholesterol or if you're diabetic, not weight loss.

I have fed BCBS and so far I am about $600 out of pocket that was for all appointments. $220 was for dietitian, $230 for head doctor. the rest was co-pays. i have to pay around $1500 to the hospital at time of the surgery. So I guess I will eventually be out of pocket about $2000.

To me worth every penny!!
