Tooth Health and the Band

Recommended Posts

After my last fill, I have been BPing about everyday. I am guilty of eating too much, too fast, and up it comes. I am trying to be conscientious about eating smaller bites much slower. While I know this is not good for my band, I am also concerned about my teeth. Although BPing is different than regular old throwing up because the food isn't sitting in stomach acid, I'm still wondering if stomach acids do come up and can effect your teeth. Does anyone know if it does have an effect on your teeth? I'm also wondering if chewable vitamins are bad for your teeth . . . I'm just thinking that if trace minerals are left on your teeth they could cause discoloration. Any thoughts on that??

Ouch, I knew this topic would eventually unfold. I'm afraid of my next dental visit. I've noticed my teeth are fading and ugly, and I have to wonder if it's from regular acid reflux marinating my teeth every night as I sleep. I better make an appointment. Sigh.

I've heard this topic discussed before, but there doesn't seem to be any agreement on whether PBing or reflux can really hurt our teeth. It seems to me that it would have to be extremely frequent in order to have any effect.

Lots of people suffer from reflux who aren't banded. I've never heard of any connection between it and tooth decay or deterioration. Bulimia does affect the teeth, but PBing is not the same as vomiting up stomach acids on a regular basis. I think any bandster-reported connection may just be the natural inclination we have to attribute any negative symptom to the fact that we're banded.

Personally my teeth have never been better. I attribute that partly to the fact that I eat less often, but mostly to my Sonicare toothbrush. :)

I just spoke to my dentist and he says my teeth are in great shape. I also asked my surgeon about this and he said that PB'ing should not contain any stomach acid, so no worries there. As for the reflux, that needs to be treated, regardless of dental health, for the haelth of the esophagus (sp?). Hope this helps~Mandy

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
