Well, the holidays present several issues to a bandster...me being a bit new to it all I would love advice. How do you tell people who do not know? How do you avoid the "bad" foods? How do you not smack the ral thin girl going "OMG I just wish I could eat more than this one scoop of potatoes!" (j/K)...

basically how do you plan on making it through this Christmas?

ditto! i'll probably nibble all day though in order to get all of my tastes in!!! my parents are cooking hot wings potatoe salad, and deviled eggs and we are bringing pea salad, mac and cheese, my sinful Cookies, brownies, homead bread, and our forecast is for 60 degrees!!!! so the 'picnic' type foods will seem fitting.

dizzy- i take it your going to be somewhere with a lot of people!!! luckily my immediate family is the only one in out state so we wont have any 'skinny ones'. Dont tell anyone your not comfortable with telling. if your restricted eat what you want and let the band tell you when to quit. if your not restricted yet and trying not to gain the only way to aviod the high calorie foods is to suffer. i know i wouldnt be able to do that. most holiday foods are high calorie, high fat luckily its only once a year!

dont think i was any help...

I'm going to use the same strategy I used at Thanksgiving, one bite of everything I love! until the band tells me to stop. I figure that way I don't miss out on anything! My band and I get a long pretty good. Were good comunicators!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
