Got the letter from Aetna on Saturday. Yesterday I called the surgeon's office and scheduled my pre-op appointment for November 3rd. At that time, they'll schedule my surgery date. I'm hoping it will be at the beginning of December. I can't wait. Of course, I'll have to do the lovely 10 day liquid diet. He sometimes has people do 14 days, but since I've lost 25 pounds so far (weigh 277, down from 302), I think I'll just be on the 10 day diet. I'm feeing so many different emotions--unbelievable joy and hope, fear, worry that I won't succeed, worry about my emotional state once I give up my best friend/worst enemy (food), worry about how my relationships might change, etc. One thing I know is I'm very ready to have this done and begin my new life! I don't often post on these boards, but I love reading about people's hopes, desires, successes, challenges, etc. Thanks, everyone!

Just wanted to respond to your post. We are pretty close in the process. I have my Doctor's appt on Nov 2 (my birthday) and my surgery is scheduled Nov 9. They called me yesterday and set up everything. Then she said you have to start your 14 day diet tomorrow. Wow! Even though I know it was going to happen, Just didn't expect them to say start tomorrow. So today was my first day of the liquid diet. Im doing ok, but so worried about a week from now. I know I have to stay focused and try and realize it will be worth it. I hope. I have the same feelings as you. Im scared, afraid it will not work. Over the last 14 years, (at age 45) It just seems there has been no metabolism left in me. Well good luck to you.

Welcome and good luck to you both. It's going to take some patience, losing weight can get a bit boring at times when the weight stalls or slows, but hang in there and it will be gone forever.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
