Calling all those who have TRICARE Standard...what co-mormidities helped you qualify?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.....I have Tricare Standard and last year I had my consult and at the time Tricare would not pay unless it was done in an acute care setting...so now my weight loss center built one and are now accepting Tricare clients. I am currently waiting on insurance approval as of last week. Last year I know they ran me through and I qualified and could have even sworn that they sent me a letter giving me the ok for the surgery but this year they have to request all my medical information. I am inquiring to see what comormidities helped you qualify with Tricare.

I have hypothyroidism and the coordinater at the weight loss center said that was one...I also have acid reflux with hiatil hernia.

Thanks for any input anyone can give me!

Hmmm I have prime so Im not sure if the comorbidities woudl be different (Id assume not). I didnt have any comorbidities (Im part of that "your double your weight so we'll automatically approve you" club) but some that the drs did tell me about were sleep apnea, PCOS, hypotension, high blood pressure, diabetes. I woudl call up tricare and ask them to define their co morbidities for you.

Sorry...I know that you are asking for Tricare Standard people to reply, and I am Tricare Prime, but I am surprised that it is all that different. My doc says that Tricare is about the easiest insurance to work with. I was approved right away because of my BMI alone (over 40) and I also have high blood pressure.

I agree, call and have them tell you exactly what the qualifications are. Hope it works out for you quickly!

Michelle

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
