I have told my supervisor I will probably be off for 7 work days but don't know if that is true or not. I see my surgeon on Monday Nov 1st and hoping I can get a better date from him. I am already scheduled to be off the week of Thanksgiving for vacation. I will be off a week right after surgery, return for a week, and be off another week. I sure am going to hate smelling that Thanksgiving dinner and be on a liquid diet ... haha. I guess I have to sacrifice something ...

You know smelling the food will bother you much the sore stomach and gas will. I have been at my daughters house and she was cooking Breakfast it smelled REAL GOOD, but I did not want it I even looked at the food, I thought about the band slipping and soreness it turned my stomach.... You might need two weeks that what my doctor said, but we are all so different in healing:blush:

I had my surgery on Oct 7. Went back to work on 10-25. I still have pain in my stomach where the port is but it is not so bad that i can't deal with it. Also having some gas pains in my upper chest and finding it hard to burp. But I find the good far out weighs the bad. I walk at least 30 mins a day which seems to help with the gas. My doctor had me go from liquid protien for first week to soft food. I didn't have to go on Clear Liquids except the day of surgery and the day after. So every doctor is different. I also found it hard the first couple of days to get the protien shake down. Sometimes it took me 2 hours to get down 8 ounces. That is from the swelling from surgery, be patient it gets better.

I am getting banded tomorrow and I am really quite nervous. I am even afraid to eat today. I am going to take 3 weeks off of work. Do you think that is enough.

Yikes, I am being banded 11-22 and I was only planning on 1 week off. I have read differing things about recovery. I saw where some people were back to work after 3 days. My doctor said most people take 3-5 days off, but he said that I could be off up to 2 weeks if I wanted it.

I am really worried about the gas pains after. Besides walking, is there anything else that you can do to decrease it?

I have lost 18lbs post-op,& 20 pre-op. Also Thursday night I started having these pins and needle pains in my upper left arm. But after searching this site and another one I have discovered that is pretty common in some lap band patients. They say it is redirected nerve pain from your diaphram. Any way my primary care doc gave me some pain Patches for inflamation that seem to be helping. I started gas X today. Going to see if that helps with the gas. My doc said his biggest complaint is port site pain. So I guess because they have to put it under the muscle and fat layers that takes a long time to heal. I walk everyday at least 30 minutes. I missed a couple of days this week due to not feeling well and the gas build up was really bad those days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
