What am i doing wrong????????????

Recommended Posts

So I am 13 days post op..I have been following the diet to a T...liqiuds etc. Right now I am consuming between 800-900 calories a day. I had been losing..now all of the sudden

I'm gaining weight. I'm drinking my Water, taking my supplements, tracking my protien consumption...which is around 50 most days at this point. So what am I doing wrong???

Who the hell gains weight eating a half a cup of puree 3xday and a protien shake?

Don't worry about it. You are still in the healing stage. I'm 8 weeks post op and you've lost a lot more than me.

2-3 weeks after you start a new diet, you usually go into a plateux stage. Don't stress out, just make sure you're exercising (if you've been cleared for it) and keep doing what you're doing. Once you get some solids into you your metabolism will slowly get faster.

The possible reason this could be happening is if you're on liquids or not eating reguarly, it can pass through your body and effect your metabolism.

So don't freak out

You would not believe how much difference a little exercise makes.

When I first went back to my doctor after my surgery, I was amazed at how much weight I'd lost. Then the following week, I went back to work and was on mushies and noticed I'd gained about 5 lbs back. I started stopping at my local park on the way home from work and just did one walking lap around their fitness trail. I immediately started losing again. Not a lot, but enough that I've noticed a difference.

Expecting too much?

Right now your body is healing. Let it.

Most likely, your body is becoming very efficient (lowering your metabolism) because your calories have dropped so low so rapidly and thinks you're starving. However, if you're not logging what you're eating into something like Fitday.com, I would recommend it. It's not hard to add *lots* of extra calories into our diet even on puree.

I wouldn't stress about it, same thing happened to me shortly after surgery. I lost alot in that first week, and then it pretty much stopped and I gained back like three or four pounds. I was upset but just kept doing what I was supposed to and lo and behold, the scale started its quick move downward again. I gather from seeing folks talk about it, that this is a usual and normal occurrence.

Your body cannot help but eventually lose if you consume less calories than you use. This is an adjustment period (and you'll probably adjust several times during this journey). Ride it out, keep doing what we're supposed to, and you'll HAVE to lose eventually. I mean, even in starvation mode-- starving people lose weight

You are not doing anything wrong. When I was about 15 days out, I noticed that I had stopped losing. I took it as a cue to get on the treadmill. Once I did (30-60 minutes of walking every other day), I started losing again. Like others said, your body is still healing, also it is getting used to going from having 300+ calories in one sitting to like 100 or less. That is tough on a metabolism, but it will all even out. Keep your head up and keep doing what you are doing. Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
