Hi,

I'm scheduled for surgery Nov 23.

My major concern about post-banding life is drinking Water.< /p>

I love cold water, and I love to gulp down a glass when I am thirsty.

Do people find that they have to take little room-temperature sips? If so, how do you deal with it.

Thanks

I just cannot chug immediately after a meal. If I do, everything is likely to come back up.

Otherwise, I can drink normally at any temperature.

The sip, sip, sip, is for immediately post-op when you don't want to be stressting a stomach that was just pushed and pulled and put through a trauma and could have swelling.

After you've healed, liquids go through pretty quickly. Yesterday I drank a 24 oz. bottle of Water in about 20 minutes, if that helps. I am 2 1/2 years post-op.

I never had a problem with Water even after surgery...or even after I had too much fill. On the rare occasion I'll take a gulp and it will come back up but I think that has more to do with my throat seizing up and closing than it has to do with the band.

There are times when I can feel the Water start to "pool" up and then I know I need to take it slower.

However, most of the time, I have no issues drinking water..hot, cold or room temp. I drink cold Water almost every day during workouts.. no problems. I drink hot tea or hot water before meals.. no problems. You'll learn what works for you as you go along.

I'm a cold Water girl too, even when I'm skiing! The first week it hurt a bit, but that went away. Room temp Water makes me sick, really. You'll be fine.

Never had a problem gulping cold Water on an empty stomach...just as satisfying as pre-band. Full stomach? No. Have to wait your 30 minutes :huh2:

I had my surgery on Oct 21st and I am having a hard time forcing myself to drink and I am starting to feel like I am getting dehydrated. I am going to try to really concentrate on drinking...its a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have been horrible about the Water and the Protein water...and thats all i have been ingesting since my surgery.

Patrice, please talk to your surgeon about this if you mean you find it physically hard to drink.

I was guzzling down Water and Protein Shakes a few hours out of surgery. I did have a fill that slowed my drinking down for a day or so but I don't think it is normal to last a long time.

I am just into my second month post op now and so far, haven't had any issues with drinking, other than the fact that I don't seem to have the huge thirst that I had previous to my banding. That issue is something I am trying to deal with as I know I am not getting in the amount of Water I should be. I just need to train myself to keep drinking through the day.

When I was first post op, I had an issue with only wanting to take teeny tiny sips and I had such a huge fear of throwing up water if I drank too much at one time. My Doctor said to me, "have you TRIED to take bigger sips?". And nope, I sure hadn't. lol. So now I know that I can, I just need to force myself to do it.

I was a Water gulper too, so when they said no more gulping and sips only, I started practicing BEFORE surgery until I got into the sipping habit. So now it's easy to sip my water.

You will heal faster if your hydrated. You will feel better too. Dehydration is not fun.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
