Recommended Posts

I was banded last tuesday 10/19. I got dressed for church yesterday and I noticed that my clothes were a little loose. But when I went to church and people was asking me if I was loosing weight I was like wow can people tell already??Today I went to my doctors appt and I got on the scale and omg I cant believe I lost 21lbs in less than a week of surgery. I went by the book this week and it paid off. So I just wanted to motivate the newbees.. Just stick to it and the results will come... good luck!

Awesome! That is quite a lot of weight! I hope you're eating plenty of Protein to keep your muscle strength up.

What liquids were you on?

I am hardly able to get anything down. I have been drinking Water and whatever else works. Just mainly sipping everything. I had a little broth but wasnt able to tolerate that either. the doctor said as long as I was keeping things down not to worry. Tomorrow I start mushy foods so I will see how that goes. Right now I have no intrest in food. I hope it gets better.

It'll get better. Just get an unfill if needed or wait for the swelling to go down. It might take a while to find good restriction though, but everyone goes through that (besides the really really lucky ones).

Having no interest in food is good! It means the band works! :-) Just make sure you take a liquid Vitamin or equivilant to ensure you're getting enough nutrients.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
