Julie* 0 Posted December 19, 2005 My surgeon requires that everyone has a sleep study done before he will do lap band surgery. Is this common practice? I really don't believe that I have sleep apnea. My husband does have it and I know what all of the signs/symptoms are. The problem is that my health insurance just denied the sleep study and I am not sure how to proceed. Tricia K. 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Not every surgeon requires a sleep study of his/her patients. After answering a series of questions, my surgeon determined that I did not have sleep apnea and, therefore, didn't need one. I'm sorry to hear that your insurance company has denied the study. Did they give you a specific reason? If not, maybe you should call and ask for one and then inquire about what you should/can do to receive approval for the study. Otherwise, your only other option is to pay for it out-of-pocket. Good luck.
