Tally23 0 Posted October 25, 2010 So I found this exercise TV on my comcast on demand cable. Its free... so I did a 20 minute walking work out last night... I guess I did too much too quick because my hips are KILLING ME.. I really didnt think 20 minutes would be all that much...:huh2: But I guess it was for a person who does not normally do it..:huh2:
Mariasha 3 Posted October 25, 2010 Do it again tomorrow. And again the day after. And the day after that. No way 20 minutes walking is going to do you any harm. By the end of the week you'll actually be enjoying it and looking forward to your workouts. Remember, nothing comes easy. No pain, no gain.
Knaroz 31 Posted October 25, 2010 Although Mariasha's enthusiasm is nice, be careful if you are just starting any program. It is normal for your hips to hurt because of the excess weight and gravity pushing on the bones and joints. Especially if you have not been walking normally try not to walk 2 days in a row ever, do it every other day. Once that becomes too easy then you can move up to longer walks but try not to walk every day, let your leg muscles rest and on the days you are not walking try to work on some upper body stretches or lifting small weights. By giving the muscle groups a day of rest and alternating you will see results faster, you will be less sore, and enjoy your new found freedoms. 1 Sblueberry reacted to this
honk 780 Posted October 25, 2010 If you are seriously hurting I would do a different exercise tomorrow. You don't want to do serious damage to a muscle or tendon. I swim everyday for an hour so for a fat person I get a lot of exercise. My mother's property suffered serious damage after a "tornado" like event this summer. When I go up there for the day to work on the wood: rolling large chunks of wood to the splitter, moving them around to make the cuts, throwing the cut wood; and then stacking it, I am exhausted. The next day I have aches and pains all over the place. The muscle I use there are different than those I use in the pool.
Jachut 487 Posted October 26, 2010 Oh, but that pain is soooo good! Lol, its very satisfying. As long as you can distinguish between the pain of sore muscles and a true injury, just work through it. Walking is low impact and fairly easy and not likely to do any real damage.
jaxgtr 1 Posted October 26, 2010 Remember, Pain is weakness leaving the body. Having said that, what your feeling is probably the fact that your were using muscle you had not used for a while in that fashion, but you need to continue or you will never get beyond it. When I starter exercising after many years of being a couch potato, I rode my bike for 4 miles and thought I was going to die the next day, but I got back on it the next day and so on for 10 days straight, it was the best thing I could have done. 4 years and 11,000 miles later, it all started with the first push of that pedal. WrenBird 11 Posted October 26, 2010 If I were you, I'd get a healing massage and do it again tomorrow
