port abscess anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi I am trying to find out if anyone else has had a port infection, had the port removed, and then had it replaced. I am trying to decide it it is worth getting it replaced. I would like to hear your story

How can you not get your port replaced? If you don't get it replaced you won't be able to get any adjustments which means that your band will not work the way it should.

I don't know anyone that has had an abcess but I do know people who have had their ports repositioned as they had tilted. As far as I am aware having the port fixed is a fairly minor procedure.

I am not sure I even want the band anymore. After the crap that has happened so far. I must have been tired when I wrote that post.

It sounds as though you have encountered a minor setback which at this stage of your journey is disappointing and pretty overwhelming.I understand why you are feeling negative.

However you have had the surgery which is the biggest hurdle to get over I don't think you should go backwards now. Get the port fixed, gets meds to clear up your abcess and carry on. Yes I know it's hard but I am sure in a couple of months you will be able to look back and see this for what it is, a minor pothole on the road to good health.

Things like this do happen. They are not part of the plan but for most they continue and achieve what they are hoping for. Weight loss and improved health.

Heres hoping that this will be you soon too.

I've felt discouraged so many times <3

It's gone away for me. I think depression and dissapointment is sometimes inevitable when you can't eat as much as you used to.

Cheer up and have a think about it. In the end you might just need some antibiotics <3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
