Have no idea what thread you were in or what people said to you. However if you dare to go into the rants and raves section you must be prepared for what you get. It is a no holds barred section and as you have seen anything gets discussed in there.

If you want support and advice on your weight loss journey stick to the other boards/threads. You will be given lots of support.

I am sure that when they said leave they meant leave that particular discussion not leave LBT.

Hope you stick around and participate in some of the non controversial topics.

I would agree that some of the Misc. discussions can be nasty. I once responded to a comment made about people that hand out samples at the mall food court. The thread starter railed at me saying I was the thought police and that I should NEVER again respond to one their threads (talk about thought police!). I have to admit their comment really upset me. I have not gone back to the Rant section again.

I do think that most of us come to both give and receive advice; to be mentors and be mentored.

Cyber Bullying is not a new phenomenon. It is amazing what some people say under the cover of anonymity. The ironic part is most of the people here were probably subject to being picked on and ridiculed due to former or current obesity issues. Shame on them.

I wouldn't leave, ignore what they say, and stick to the topics that help you. I am annoyed myself about the anal sex topic, I find it offensive and childish and will not even read topics like that.

Is there anyway to report these offenses? No one should be forced off such an amzing site as this...I've recieved so much support and encouragement from everyone and you should experience that too!

If the topics discussed in the Rants and Raves *OFF TOPIC* section aren't something you find tasteful or even interesting, then I'd suggest you stay out of there. But to go in and tell other adults that they shouldn't be discussing such topics is NEVER a good idea.

While I agree that the language used toward and about you was unnecessary and inappropriate, to be fair, none of them told you to leave lapbandtalk altogether, they just strongly suggested you leave that particular board if you found it wasn't suited to your needs.

Maybe you'd be better suited to the main boards or, as kll724 suggested, the 50+ board.

I hope you stick around, but if you plan to follow through with the "Goodbye cruel, cruel forum" (:blushing:) stance then I wish you luck finding a support group that better meets your needs and in your weight loss journey in general.

I've had people jump on my case too. Don't stress. Tell a moderator - Maybe not a great idea to make a thread about it.

Don't be sad <3

Cleo's mom is actually a really sweet person, I've noticed. Maybe you've just seen the bad side of these people.

Really? Tell a moderator? :blushing: I was an admin on an online forum and you would not believe the stupid shit I had e-mailed to me. I didn't even respond to them because it was just beyond lame.

Why not just be an adult and stop being so damned offended by every little thing. Why the hell is everyone so sensitive?!?!? If you (a generic "you" - not anyone specific) are easily offended, it is your problem, not mine.

Since the OP is on my ignore list now, I will tell you that she went on Election Issues (not any of the other threads) on Rants & Raves and questioned that this was supposed to be about weight loss and the band not election issues. BTW, I started the Election Issues thread.

Both another poster and I told her it clearly states that this forum is OFF topic - and what doesn't she understand about that and that if she doesn't want to get involved in off topic debates to stay out and stick to the MANY threads that deal with the band and weight loss.

That is when she sent me and the other poster a private message using stronger, insulting language and that is when things heated up and the moderator told everyone to get back on topic.

She is welcome to come into rants & raves and post opinions that relate to the topic but if she is opposed to the very idea of a rants & raves forum then just stay out. Pretty simple to me.

Thank you, Wren Bird. I actually am a sweet person but I will not be intimidated. And I suspect the OP didn't so much have a problem with Rants & Raves being off topic and not about weight loss and the band but that the Election Issues thread postings didn't mesh with her political views.

When she posted here I went to see what she was talking about and saw that you guys started out nicely informing her that she was in an "off topic" thread and what that meant. That's the reason I told her it was never a good idea to tell other adults what they should and shouldn't be discussing.

I don't know what she said in her PM's, but I think some of the things that were said to and about her in the thread was uncalled for. Maybe it should have just been handled in pm's instead of out in the open.

But either way, I think this whole post is silly. I'm not a fan of the "Goodbye cruel, cruel forum" posts. I think if you're unhappy and want to leave, then just leave. I don't see the point in the all the theatrics, personally. :blushing:

Well if she was being treated badly I think that's ok...Don't you? We're meant to respect each other here, right?

I actually went and read what she was talking about and you're completely right...What she was on about was so small and silly, I not only think she shouldn't tell a moderator now, but I was so surprised she was even offended by it.

I went and had a look at what all the fuss was about and I'm soo surprised! It was nothing for her to worry about at all.

I think the thread starter just didn't understand the forum and was looking at the recent posts part.

I think if anything, you guys were less respected than her :smile2:

Not to worry though (though I doubt this fazes you), a large majority of the people here know that you're not the way she described you. :blushing:

I'm not fazed in the least. I have been on these boards for a long time. However, I am confused about the OP of this thread. When it was first posted the OP name that showed up on the thread was peggycas, now it's showing up as justwannabeme. How did that happen? :huh2:

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
