I just got my lap band on Tuesday 10/19/10. My area where my port is hurts so bad and I feel every little movement hurts it even more. They found a hernia while putting in the lap band that they corrected. I was really sore the 1st few days but I did what the doctor wanted me to do. When I went home I was more sore then when I was in the hospital. The pain is still there but it is easing up. Can anyone give me some advice. :blushing:

That soreness where your port is will get better! My port hurt so much I couldn't lay on my side. I'm 3 months out and one day the pain just stopped (and no it didn't take the whole 3 months for it to disappear). Hang in there...you will feel better soon. :blushing:

I had mine done on the 8th and I thought that the pain would never stop. The best trick that I found was applying an ice pack..20 minutes on/20 minutes off. My surgeon stitched that port to the muscle and probably yours did too to hold it in place. I still have some tenderness and slight swelling but it has gotten better, it just will take some time. Hope you feel better soon...

I was banded on the 15th Oct and had hernia repair at the same time too. 10 days out and I feel so much better. I can feel the area with the port but its just tender now. At night I would use a heating pad for about and hour before bed. I haven't had to in a few days. Im sooooo happy I can now roll around at night and sleep on my tummy. Im still tender and if I move to fast I feel tight so I just take it slow. But each and every day I feel a little better.

I was banded on Oct 4 and I didnt really feel to much soreness at first then I started to feel this stinging kinda pain that would come at random times. That freaked me out!!! The doc told me that was just my port healing and getting a little tug here and there. Someone suggested I use a heating pad and that really worked for me. Doc told me little by little I would feel it less then just forget about it. And a few days later I realized that I hadn't felt it again.

I hope you're feeling better really soon.

I was banded the same day. The only place I'm sore is where the port is, but it really is improving. I noticed this morning that I was sleeping on my left side, so that's good. I think we just have to be patient. I'm a little nervous about returning to work tomorrow, because I have a pretty active job. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
