I was instructed to walk immediately. I walked approx 20-30 minutes a day initially (just around the yard) and wasn't cleared for additional activity (not even sex) until 6 weeks after surgery.

The walking is VERY important as it aids in relieving the horrible gas pains. By week 2, I was walking an hour a day; I continued to walk and increase my time and pace as the weeks went by.

Talk w/ you doc. Seems that everyone is given different orders.

Oh no! I didnt know they put a restriction on sex. 6 weeks after the surgery..:)

Im not scheduled to have the surgery until 12-15 and I have already started planning my daily walks... While I am out of work. I am hoping that the exercise will help the weight loss. Need to loose about 60 pounds.

:huh2:

I find it pleasant to see how much exercise everyone is doing. I can only do .8 of a mile walk or 20 minutes on the stationary bike.

I seem to be the lowest exerciser here. I know I have been sedentary for years and have a high bmi, but I want to be able to last longer.

I didnt do any exercise for the 2 weeks after surgery. I was just sore, but I did keep moving by walking around house and doing household chores. I started walking and running using C25K Iphone program 3 wks. I am doing about 30 minutes 5 days per week. I am gonna kick it up after my 1st fill this week. Just wanted to wait the 6 weights before I add the squats and stuff to the mix and weight lifting

I was told I could do elliptical and treadmill after my post-op visit (1 week post op) but no weights more then 10lbs, no ab workouts and no swimming for 6 weeks. Oh and I could resume going to zumba, but not do the ab parts.

I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I haven't been doing much, however, I am starting my exercising this week. I finally feel 1000%. I'm doing the C25K (starting today) and going to the gym the rest of the days.

Good luck everyone!!! Wish me luck with the C25K I'm a bit terrified because I've never been much of a runner! :huh2:

I was cleared for all of it @ 4 weeks. Felt like I could have done it sooner. I started running @ 4 weeks. I tried doing some abdominal work and it hurt too much in my port area (felt pulling...yikes!) so I quit all the ab stuff until 6 weeks. Have not had any problem since then :huh2:

I walked immediately after as did a lot of folks, but went to running 4 wks out, really until you finish your post op diet, you dont have the energy to do hard core exercise. Now i run a few times a week and am up to 6 miles. Exercise is definately the key. I too also am losing inches over lbs, i was told not to fret though i am gaining muscles i did not have before. Good luck, the important thing is to find something you enjoy, so you will stick to it!

Don't worry. Just go at your own pace.

I see people that are able to run, and I can't do that, but my exercise works for me so it doesn't really matter I think.

Have you tried aqua aerobics?

They made me take a few walks at the hospital right after my surgery....but since i have home its been really hard to muster up the energy. I am on that first week of a liquid diet and i am having a really hard time drinking enough Water and consuming enough Protein. I have been failing at it. I think yesterday I only had about 20g of protein and 80 calories. I tried to walk but I dont have any energy. What does everyone do to have enough energy to walk? Other than being tired, I feel great, my stomach doesnt hurt at all anymore and I can get around just fine. I went to work yesterday and by the time I went from my car to my desk i was really tired. Im thinking of trying to dilute some apple juice so i can at least get a few carbs to help with energy. I dont know what to do.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
