Hi, I'm in the approval process for my Lap-Band®®, hopefully only 2 more visits still I can schedule surgery with my insurance. I am 24 now and I was just wondering about more people my age, do you need or have you had plastic surgery post band? If so, what procedure and did insurance help with coverage? I know I'm ahead of my game but I just want to start saving/funding for a possible reconstruction if needed. Thanks for answering! :)

It depends on many things including how much weight you need to lose, how long you have been overweight, genetics, and other factors.

It is really impossible to know before you start as it can vary greatly from person to person.

I was also 24 when I had the surgery. I'm still in the middle of my journey but I can tell already that I will need plastic surgery at the end of it all.

Good luck with your surgery!

Thank you for your response. I think I will definitely have to plan on having at least some kind of reconstruction. My "ideal" weight would require me to lose about 130lbs. I'm sure that once all is said and done I will be much happier with my results after having some type of plastic surgery. Luckily my insurance will cover a panniculectomy as long as I meet their requirements, so we shall see. I'm very excited for my band and just getting that weight off will be a very exciting milestone! Congrats on your weight loss, I hope it's been an amazing journey! :blushing:

I was 24 when banded and now I am 25. I have had Lipo a few times on numerous parts of my body and just had a mini Tummy Tuck.< /p>

With plastics there are many things to consider before doing a surgery like if your going to have kids etc. Some doctors dont recommend things like a tummy tuck or breast lift before kids.

This is something to consider. Please keep in mind though that since we are young our bodies will change so much after we lose weight. I wanted a breast lift but now I find my boobs are ok now and I think I will skip a lift.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
