I did it!

Recommended Posts

The hard part is over, I finally got off my butt and started exercising! I had been walking here and there since surgery but not actively forcing myself.

Last week, I started forcing myself to commit to at least 3 nights a week.

I was surprised that I was able to last a lot longer before getting tired. I was down 70 before getting on the exercise bandwagon and getting that initial weight off is making the movement so much easier!

I even made it to 2.5 miles this week and it feels great, the soreness is starting to subside now! The great weather makes the walks around the neighborhood enjoyable. :w00t:

Hey! Congrats! I totally agree - getting up and starting is the hardest part by far! After you get over that initial hump it gets more routine! I don't love working out, but I'm in a groove. Ive accepted that I don't love working out, but an hour a day won't kill me!

And I agree - go to a gym, and get into a group training schedule or find a good personal trainer, and try to find a gym that will help you with food logs, weigh-ins, body composition (fat mass vs lean mass) and general coaching. Great job!

Congratulations, Angela!

Getting started is the hardest part. Your story sounds a lot like mine, although I waited until I was 11 months out and 90 labs lighter. It was just too darn hard to do anything besides go to work at my starting weight. I also have committed myself to at least 3 days a week. I joined a gym, but I think it's really a matter of finding what works for you. You're going to find out that it keeps getting easier and easier and you will be amazed at what you can do as you lose weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
