Banded newbie. :)

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone. :wink2:

I'm twenty-five and was banded March 25th 2010- I'm quickly approaching seven months post-op- and completely blown away by how quickly time has flown by. I am looking for some support and WLS friends. I have recently undergone port revision surgery as well (September 30th 2010) due to my port healing at a severe tilt- fills were done fluoroscopically every time, and so to eliminate that my surgeon reset my port, and took away some excessive scar tissue, I am still healing from that; I'm very open to answering any question anyone of you may have, so please contact me if that be the case.

Anyway, here is my quick hello, and again... I'm looking for some new WLS friends! I'm still trying to figure out my way around this site, but I'll get it!

My stats are posted below, I am 5'7" 1/2 tall. (Basically 5'8"!) I started this journey at 325lbs and am as of today 254lbs. A total loss of 71lbs in 29 weeks. My "goal weight" is incredibly rough, I truly have no idea what 160lbs looks like, or even feels like... but it is within a healthy BMI; So, that's what's where it's set for now, who knows what new goal may come out of it once I reach 160! ;] 94lbs to go-

... I'm chasing change, losing half of "me" - while gaining so much more! <3

Congrats on your progress despite the difficulties you've run into along the way... I couldn't imagine reaching a healthy BMI, but three years with the band have helped me realize that dream. I lost half of me... you can do it too! Welcome, and good luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
