Eventhough I know I have lost a good amount of weight I still have issues with the smaller me. I know that is backwards but I was just wondering if anyone else have issues with their new appearance similar to mine. Thanks!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Fantastic job! I was banded on 05/06/2010 and have lost 65 lbs to date. I'm a guy so it probably drops faster than it does for women. I'm working out 5-6 days a week, I'm told I am looking pretty fit. I see pictures of myself and I don't shy away from the camera as much as I did before I've lost the weight.

But, put me in front of a mirror in the bathroom and I still see the fat guy in me. I know I am more healthier than ever, I feel fantastic. But, put me in front of a mirror in the bathroom and I see the fat guy in me still. Many ask me if I am going to lose any more weight, I tell them that I hope to lose a bit more, I have not hit my target weight. Most are amazed that I still want to lose more, I just tell them that clothes hide alot.

I understand where your coming from. I am still in my 'honeymoon' phase of my journey. I hope with some time I'll start to feel better about my physical appearance as much as I feel great on the inside.

Thanks for responding. I feel the exact same way in the mirror but more on pictures for some reason. My clothes are a lot smaller BUT I still feel like I'm still bigger. During my pre-op phase my Dr. did say counseling afterwards is a good idea, because of issues like that. I'm just glad to see I'm not alone.

I totally understand how you are feeling. For some reason...since I've been banded...I feel worse about my self image!

I've lost 40 lbs. and feel fatter than I did when I had the 40 lbs. on me! It's weird how that works. Maybe my fat is not as full as it once was...lol...more jiggly I suppose! =0

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
