Am I missing something, sugar free carnation instant Breakfast I have read the labels in the store and there doesn’t seem to be enough Protein to say so in them. It is on the list of drinks I can use, but I just don’t see why.

Yeah I am not sure about that either. I thought the same thing. That is one of the things that my doctor wants me to drink, but like you I was thinking it was low. I won't agrue some of it though, as it is not nasty. lol But I also drink other Protein Drinks to make sure i am gettnig what I need.

My post surgery plan says to add Protein to the CIB. They have Pro-Cel at the hospital cafeteria. 1 scoop is 5g protein.

I may seriously consider that since CIB is a lot cheaper than the Protein shakes, and tastes so much better!! I jsut have to check with my nutritionist!!

But they do have a lot of other valuable nutrients. I am actually one year post op and I make my Protein Shakes with 1 packet carnation, I scoop Protein Powder and I cup milk. That SF mix sure improves the flavor a lot. :wink2:

The guideline I was given is the shake/drink has to be below 150 calories and have at least 15g Protein.< /p>

Carnation inst. breakfast does not fall into these guidelines.

I, too, add Protein powder to my CIB. I am not a breakfast person, so this is something I can carry with me to work and sip on throughout the morning. While I like the CIB better by itself, adding the protein powder is better than most of the Protein Shakes out there, and cheaper too!

For on the go moments I like the Premier Ready To Drink chocolate Protein shake from costco 160 cal for 30 grams Protein. I think it tastes pretty good.

I admit I don't think I've had CIB since I was a kid. Is the reason people like it because of the sweetness? I use splendra so don't take the question as a knock. If one were to sweenten a Protein Shake with spelndra to the same sweetness as CIB would people like them more? I add things to my protein shakes to make them taste better so I don't mind the taste like a lot other posters.

I love CIB, sugar free. Its saved my liquid/puree diet stage. I drink mine with 1%,cannot do skim milk. I cannot stand the taste/texture of added Protein powders and protein drinks. With my 1 C milk, its a 170 cal drink w/13g protein. Its also got all that dairy from the milk and lots of other nutrients. Not great, but when added to the food I should be eating at my meals, it will be just the protein I need to round out the day with 75g.

I add some Protein powder and a frozen banana blended, very good. :)

Hi, Thanks for the great idea! I am having my surgery next week and I am looking for new things to drink for breakfast! I am sick of the Isopure that I have to drink now! Pre op diet! Thanks for sharing! :D

Odd - Carnation Instant Breakfast is on my list of DO NOT USE things...I think because the Protein is too low & carbs are too high.

sugar free carnation instant breakfast is okay! Regular is not.. according to my list of rules! When you mix it with milk then it ups the Protein. But so far the life saver for me is mixing it with other Protein powders. It masks the "vitamin" taste for me. Tonight I mixed half a sugar free CIB with click protein powder and a splash of peppermint extract and milk...blended it with my hand mixer and you have a peppermint mocha!

Yum.

I must say Click Mocha is the best. Not as much protein (15g per serving) but still very yummy!

How much protien are you being told to have every day? I'm pretty much living on CIB, the sugar free stuff. I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet, and am not physically hungry at them moment and was suprised yesterday that I wasn't starving like I thought I would be, well my MIND said I was starving but my stomach disagreed. I was told to have been 60 and 80 grams and I had about 68 grams yestereday but have only managed about 53 today, but I had fasting blood work this morning and didn't get to eat until 12:30 and am just too sloshy full right now to "eat" anything else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
