Finally, today I am a bandster! :cursing: Everything went great and I have no pain to speak of, except for the gas pains. I've been walking today, but I was just wondering if you guys could share some tips with me. How long does it usually stay with you?

First, congrats and welcome to bandland. As for gas, it just depends on the individual, just like our weight loss differs. Gas-X strips helped me as did warm packs.

Finally, today I am a bandster! :wink2: Everything went great and I have no pain to speak of, except for the gas pains. I've been walking today, but I was just wondering if you guys could share some tips with me. How long does it usually stay with you?

Gas...and lots of it here! I also struggle with this and have come to terms that it will likely be the normal for me. It is very painful and Gas X doesn't touch it for me. Dr. Malley's nurse told me they only recommend the Mylanta or Malox with Simethecone (40 mg) because they have found the most success with those. The nurse told me that sometimes Gas X doesn't work with the band. She also said this could be something that just doesn't go away.

I had my surgery on Sept 16, 2010 and if I don't take Mylanta twice a day I am doubled over in pain. The heat feels great and so does yoga, but it just doesn't get rid of the gas for me. Moving around doesn't seem to prevent the gas, either. I am strict with liquid protocol. I have also found that going with the basics for food works the best for me, such as chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, eggs and a bit of cheese. Bariatric Advantage Protein shakes to supplement. I can't handle many veggies without awful gas and forget anything with sugar or heavy carbs. My tummy becomes a fermentation tank!

So, that's what has worked for me, but still I have extreme gas without the help of the daily dose of Mylanta. Everyone is so different, you'll just have to tinker a bit and find the fixes that work for you....the best to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
