Something interesting - antidepressants

Recommended Posts

I am on Lexapro. I take a 10mg dose daily. It is the only med I currently take. All of my other meds are no longer needed since banding. I have been on it for 3 years and banded for 14 months. I can tell when I do not take my Lexapro. I take it to help with my depression, anxiety, and anger. I am a bear to live with if I am not on it. Just ask my wife, she can testify to that fact. I have not had any side effects other than I am more a difficult to tolerate if I miss doses. Lexapro keeps me well balanced emotionally. I love my Lexapro. It is worth the $40.00 a month.

Maybe an increase in dosage or changing to a different depression med would help you. you should really discuss stopping or changing you med with your physician prior to just stopping. you could actually create more problems for yourself by just stopping cold turkey. Please seek medical advice before just stopping.

In my past , I got depressed on a cyclical basis. Usually, some life disaster would start me on that downward spiral. I would go to doctors to be told that it was "situational adjustment" or something like that. I finally found a doctor who realized that I was really, clinically depressed. During these cycles, I would easily lose 30-40 pounds, sometimes in a month. That was my weight loss method. after trying to do without meds, I would invariably end up asking the doctor for more. Ilearned to spot the early signs that are clearly depression related and be proactive. I am currently on zoloft and Wellbutrin. I often wonder how many of the disasterous decisions I have made were from poor judgement coming from a predisposition to depression. Of course my problem is, without the depression, I have put on 70 pounds and they aren't coming off. Thence, the lapband. I finally realized that I could be fat and happy---- or fat and healthy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
