Help, How do you get the crushed pills down YUK

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody had good ideas of how to take the crushed meds, they taste nasty. :cursing: Today was the first time, I mixed it in my tea YUK. Dumped sweet and low into it but didn't help too much. :huh2:

I agree! Nothing cuts the nastiness of it. Just down it FAST and get it over with.

I am two weeks post op. The first week I crushed my drugs 9and I take alot of them) and hated the taste. Once I got into mushie food I tried taking the pills whole and had no problem.

I asked the doctor how much Fluid I had in my band and he said only enough to prime the band. I am sure when I have more Fluid in the band I will have to crush, but for now, it is working just fine.

I came out of surgery with 3cc's and never had to crush any medication. I did break the huge Calcium pills.. tried putting them in applesauce or yogurt. Always hurt my band. I finally gave up and went to chewables.< /p>

I have 6cc in a 10cc band. I've never been told to crush pills. Even immediately post-op. But my pain meds were liquid.

I've had a few horse chokers that I had to cut in half. I take my pills one at a time as my surgeon told me to, rather than the handfull I used to do. The biggest I take regularly now are a Cal-citrate Petite and a Florastor pro-biotic.

You might be able to get some of the drugs in liquid form, ask your doc or pharmacist.

Also, if any are time-released, these should NOT be crushed or the capsules opened.

Take a small piece of paper and fold it in half and put the crushed pill in the middle of the crease. Then pour the crushed pill to the middle of your tongue and then drink something really fast.

I use to take powder asprin and the asprin came in a folded little paper. I use to gag everytime until I started pouring the powder into the middle of my tongue, you don't have as many taste buds there.

just mix it with applesauce... but only a spoonful! otherwise you have to eat all of the applesauce that tastes nasty. the less the better, just get it over with. The gross liquid pain meds and crushed pills were the worse part of post op for me!

Hold your nose while your downing it. Chase it with sugar free koolaid or crystal light.. You can swish the koolaid around and get the pill dust our of your teeth. Then let go of your nose. :w00t:

I have not had to cross this hurtle yet but i do have a suggestion. When my son was given chewable medication from the doctor. (he was already taking pills but they said his weight made hime have to get chewables.) applesauce would not do. I got sugarfree chocolate Syrup crushed the tablet and mixed it with the syrup. because my son is hyperactive we have a sugarfree household and it worked out well till all the pills were gone. Good option with a great taste. Good luck!:w00t:

This is what I do to take my gallstone medicine, I have tried to mix it with a few different things and it is nasty.

Take a small shot glass with an ounce or so of warm Water (very warm if possible but not HOT)

Dump the crushed medicine in the shot, swirl it around, give it some time to dissolve.

Take the shot, rinse out your mouth afterward with warm Water and spit

Hope this helps!

Ask your chemist if there's a liquid version they can order in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
