Whats the average loss post op per week?

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks post op Surgery was Aug 27th and I am down 40 lbs ( well 60 if you count the liquid diet) I've had two doc visits no fills and now my weight is just jumping up and down for example Oct 10 I was 292 and didnt lose anymore until Oct 16th and on Oct 17 I was down to 289 after a long day of golf and walking 2 miles. Just a little frustrated i guess. I got use to the weight flying off im not sure what to do so i guess i will ask for a fill? Any thoughts?

You should expect to lose 1-2 lbs per week, on average. I lost about 20 lbs in the two weeks after surgery and now I'm back at 1-2 lbs.

Some weeks you may lose none, and the next you may lose 3. Expecting more than that will most likely only frustrate you.

I think for a lot of us that started at a higher weight, we lost a lot really quickly right around surgery. That's great, but it also means that when we inevitably slow down to a more reasonable and sustainable weight loss pace, we get irritated. But really, it was the super fast weight loss right after surgery that was unreasonable -- there's no way we're ever going to keep losing 5-10 lbs a week, every week, even with fills, so don't even dream about it :cursing:

Yep, the average is 1-2 pounds, week. I've pretty consistently lost 2.5, but I follow a pretty stringent low-carb regimen and exercise a lot.

What kind of eating plan does your doctor recommend? Are you able to be pretty compliant, even without restriction? It is possible to lose during that very frustrating time, but it really is by virtue of white-knuckling.

1-2 pounds a week is what I was told to expect. Like Betsy, I lost and average of 2.5 or so pounds a week. I also followed a very low carb and low fat diet. About 4 months post op I started working out.

Try not to weigh yourself every day, it's just bound to frustrate you. When I was loosing, I weighed in once a week and recorded it. Your weight will naturally flucuate from day to day. Good luck!

My start weight was taken a week before surgery, and since that date I've lost an average of 2.1 pounds per week (handy FitDay program tells me so!). While I feel like it's MUCH slower now than it was 8 months ago, it's really all in my head. But, in reality, sometimes weight flies off and sometimes it doesn't.

Note: I do NOT follow a diet, I do NOT track calories and I rarely work out (when I do, I put ON weight...go figure! LOL).

I simply listen to the band, make healthier food options in general (honestly, they go down better anyway) and work out when I feel like it (just tried my first Zumba class last week).

Bottom line? We're all different! But, yes, 1-2 pounds a week is the average according to all the stats I've read and doctors I've talked to.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
