New here - American woman living in The Netherlands

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am new to this forum but I'm not new to trying to lose weight. I've finally decided to seriously look into lap-band surgery and joining this forum was my first step.

I would be very interested in hearing from all of you, but people who also reside in the NL would be great. I've been here 6 years and also have a Dutch passport and can speak Dutch, although English is much preferred (and I'm sure once you tried to read my Dutch, you'd understand why). I am especially looking for a doctor in the Netherlands (Im in Amsterdam) if you have a recommendation.

I look forward to "meeting" you all and getting to know your stories.

Sincerely,

Hollandy

Welcome!

What an adventure to live overseas! I've never been to Holland but I imagine it's just beautiful. What a great place to walk. Are there open air markets full of beautiful fresh fruits and veggies? I've been to Paris and although the foods are amazing I've always lost weight there because of the smaller portion sizes and all the tourist- walking.

Good luck on finding a band surgeon. Now that you have decided on the band I hope that everything goes smoothly for you.

Thank you very much for the welcome! I was beginning to think that nobody liked me as I had a lot of views but not one single welcome!

I've actually found out after some reasearch yesterday that the clinic that I go to for my therapy for my eating and weight problem also deal with Lap Band procedures and I am going to enquire further at my next appointment!

I'm so glad you found a source for your surgery! And right with people you already know and trust, good going!

Please don't take it personally when people read your post but don't say anything. Most people just don't know what to say, or they are newbies looking for info, who knows, but it's very common to have dozens of "looks" per every post. I've done it myself if I've read through several posts and the question seems to be answered well, I don't add my two cents.

Hang in there and I hope they give you all the help you need.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
