I had my LapBand done in Azle, Texas, which is just Northwest of Ft. Worth. It was done by Dr. Adam Smith, who has had the surgery done himself and has lost around 100 pounds!! My insurance totally covered it, too!! I previously checked out "thenewyou", but that was mostly in Plano and Azle is MUCH closer for me. Lost 17.4 pounds the first week after my surgery and already feeling better!!! :(

P.S. Dr. Smith's office is within University of North Texas Health Science Center's buildings on the corner of Montgomery and Camp Bowie in Ft. Worth.

Imtorb......What insurance do you have? I am not sure what to expect with my insurance (tricare) which I wont actually have until Sept (currently uninsured). I have heard the good & the bad! Anyway, thanks again....I want to check into this doctor a little more. I went to a seminar with Dr. Snow from Decatur last night...which was interesting. But I believe I would have to pay his portion upfront. And I spoke with the insurance processor and she said that they have only had one incounter with Tricare, in which it was not positive. Oh well, all I can do is try!

I did not have to pay upfront at the hospital. Actually, I haven't had to give them a dime yet nor have I received any type of bill! My insurance is United Healthcare, which I'm told is one of the best for covering this surgery. I had to pay out-of-pocket for the psych exam pre-surgery as well as the dietician. Hopefully I'll get the money back for the psych, but looks like I'll have to pay the dietician. I'll end up spending about $1000 if I do NOT get any money back. This will include a year with regular appointments with the dietician, so the money I had to spend for that will hopefully be well spent! Compared to what people who are NOT being covered by insurance, $1000 is a small price to pay to get my life back!

Dr. Smith has regularly scheduled seminars he gives on the LapBand surgery at Ft. Worth sites as well as Azle. Might be worth attending one of those if anyone has specific questions for him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
