Washington DC Area looking for low BMI banding doctors

Recommended Posts

Hello Yall,

I am looking to get banded within the next 6 months. I have a low BMI of 30.5 and I am having trouble finding a local doctor over the Internet that will band me. I have found doctors in other states but I would much rather be closer to home. If anyone knows of a doctor in the DC/MD/VA area that does low BMI banding PLEASE let me know!

I really don't understand why a person has to get so fat before they will help you. All the woman in my family are fat accepted the 4 that have had some type of procedure. I just don't want it to get to this point.

When I first started looking into this, i thought my only option would be going to Mexico or AZ.

I *think* anything under 35 is considered "off-label", but a physician can decide if you fit the profile. And, of course, being self-pay is another factor. When I consulted with my surgeon I had about 15 years of weight history that I had tracked over the years (gaining and losing 65 lbs 3X). That, coupled with my family history of obesity and heart disease, (and being self-pay) and he gave me the go ahead.

Good luck in your search!

Jigglebutt1 - I contacted Dr. Robert Pinnar of VA. I have set up their seminar. I wanted to get some information from you, if you don't mind. You paid out of pocket, can I ask how much you paid? Did you like the doctor? What positive and negative do you have of the situation. How many month from your surgery and how much have you lost? I have a BMI of 31 and have tried everything. I am 56 years old. I am just starting the process and really would like to see how it is from some one who has gone through it. GalaRod.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
