Hi everyone,

I am 3 days post op and everything seem to be ok. During my surgery they found I also had a hernia that needed to be repaired. So between the band placement and the hernia repair I have a bit of pain in the middle of my chest. I know it will be ok eventually. Right now I believe gas is making the opening spaz. Im not loving gas pain. Ive tried gas-ex so far some of the bigger pain is gone but now this fluttering is annoying. My incisions are tight as is the muscle beneath but as I slowly stretch and get moving it becomes easier to move. Anyways.... The gas is HORRIBLE!!!

I was banded on Friday and the gas pains have been worse than the actual incisions for me. I was reading on these boards and someone recommended using a heating pad. Let me tell you, the heating pad has worked wonders. Yesterday, my shoulder was so sore I could barely move it and today, I feel so much better.

I'm two days post banding, and sooo glad to know i'm not the only one suffering through the gas pains! I found a heating pad to work well with my old acid reflux pains, so I think i'll try it tonite.

I'm 7 days post-op and days 2-5 were horrible for me. I had the worst gas pains that I couldn't get rid of. I don't have a heating pad so I wasn't able to try that ... but walking and Gas-X didn't help. I still have a spasm in my esophagus that's painful but it's slowly becoming less frequent. I feel pretty darn good today! It'll happen guys, hang in there!

What is the esophagus spasms? I think I may be having them. I just got banded 4 days ago and the discomfort from the gas seemed to get better but today I have been trying to get down the protien shakes and Water and it feels like there is a pain in my chest. I cant finish eating and it hurts when the food hits the band. Any suggestions? I figured it was just from swelling and I am going to try the heating pad. Has anyone else felt like this?

GAS!!! Most likely. I had gas pains up to about day 8. The worst was through day 5.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
