What if Aunt Flo goes to the hospital with you? (girlie question - boys beware)

Recommended Posts

Last night I had the weirdest dream about getting banded. There were a bunch of us in bathrobes sitting in folding chairs in someone's living room, waiting to get banded. We were all wearing elastic headbands with a bright orange mailbox flag attached to the front. You had to keep the flag up so the staff would know who was in line. I had a hard time keeping my flag up. It kept falling down and then the nurse would skip over me and take someone else into surgery. The other thing was I had to pee every five seconds and the bathroom was one of those British phonebooths and every time I went in there, I'd miss hearing my name called. Also, Randal from the Apprentice was there. I have no idea why. I finally got called to go in for surgery and as I was laying down on the table, Aunt Flo showed up. I could hear the nurses talking about inserting a catheter and I woke up in a total panic.

Now that I'm awake, what *does* actually happen if you've got your T.O.M. on surgery day? I know nurses have seen it all, but I just can't imagine getting banded under those circumstances, especially since **WARNING:TOO MUCH INFORMATION** I use pads not tampons. Ew ew ew. Has anyone had to deal with this?

Don't worry - nurses have seen it all. I had my period the morning of surgery too - I was mortified. When you brought to admitting, the nurse hands you a gown - that's when I mentioned I had my period - she didn't say a thing - just reached into a drawer and handed me a pair of mesh underwear - couldn't believe they would fit, but they did - and a ginormous pad. NO TAMPONS allowed - I heard the story in my support group of a women who decided not to tell anyone, wore a tampon into the OR, and when she awoke, it was gone...........ugh, ugh, ugh. I knew not to do that! So the pad works, and when you wake up, unless your flow is extremely heavy, you will feel well enough to be able to go to bathroom in your room and change things....no problem. Hope this helps!

Very few times in my life have I laughed out loud at someones dream. That was excellent. I spent 17 years in public service (Police officer + paramedic + doctors office staff + ER Tech etc) Believe me when I say..."We have seen it all and shit you can't even begin to imagine!" So don't sweat your period. Sounds like you are making stuff up to worry about. The only time we ever talked about a Pt. was when they were just lazy and gross. Like lack of common hygene and stuff like that. So take a shower and apply a little smelly stuff and enjoy your pampering.

ROTFLMAO!!!! That is soooooo funny, I'm still cracking up. Thanks!!!! I'll be sitting in church tomorrow and get the church giggles, thinking about people sitting on a sofa waiting for band surgery with headbands and orange flags. I'm laughing so hard I can hardly type!

I've had my period in surgery when I had my wisdom teeth out, they just gave me a pad that could have passed for a loaf of bread and those very sexy mesh knickers they give you when you've just had a baby. I wouldnt wear a tampon into theatre, but it surprises me that they would find it - unless they routinely catheterise lap band patients? Which would seem unecessary when you can get up and walk around a few hours later anyway.

Does this mean you are expecting mail from Randall?

I'm not real happy for him, but then I wasn't rooting for him to win either. I wanted the woman to win, and I think he should have said yes to Trump hiring her too.....ahhhhhhh but it is "The Apprentice" not "The Apprenti"...I didn't even know there was a pleural except "The Apprentices". That's what education at all those big named schools will do for you :) I thought he acted like a butt in that particular situation. He doesn't look like the type to last in the fast paced Atlantic City. I was surprised that was his choice. Maybe still waters run deep, but Gosh it was nauseating hearing him brag on himself over Rebecca. She was a smart cookie, and kudos to her for going all those weeks with a broken foot. That took guts. Now what got me on this topie...oh yeh the dream. :)

Trump owed Rebecca big time. What a lousy gift to send a woman to play hockey. It's a wonder all she broke was her foot. What woman wants to get out on the ice and catch a puck between her teeth? Lousy prize by the Donald without any thought going into it that the women might win that and wouldn't want it.

I got my period the night before surgery and I too was handed the mesh undies and huge pad. The strange thing was that by the evening after surgery my period was gone. Now I am wondering when it will return!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
