What's for dinner tonight?

Recommended Posts

I'm having the hardest time with family meals lately! My family likes a lot of casserole/one pan type stuff and that's so easy to make but it's not high in Protein.

What are you guys having tonight?

We're having taco's tonight. Of course I won't be having the taco shells so instead I'll have a taco salad.

I use 98% lean ground turkey with a taco seasoning packet and I also substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream.

The meal is high in Protein (ground turkey, refried Beans w/cheese, and Greek yogurt) and I'll get my veggies from the lettuce and Tomato. It's one of our favorites!

I made some shrimp scampi today. I was going to make it with some whole grain Pasta but I decided to put it over brown rice instead.

I was only able to eat 2 shrimps with about 2 tbsps of brown rice before I started feeling it up in my throat.

My favorite one pot meal is Perdue shortcut chicken breast strips ( I keep these in the freezer all the time) with some fat free cream of mushroom Soup and a bag of frozen mixed veggies. I simmer that all down together... of course i season it with a little seasoned salt , garlic powder and black pepper. I serve it over brown rice and sometimes sprinkle a few of those crispy fried onions on the top of it. Yummy!!!

With the lovely chilly fall weather I've been in a Soup kind of mood -- chicken and rice, chili, tortilla soup, etc. To adhere to the guidelines for the band, I'll make sure to ladle about 3/4-1 cup of filling (rice, chicken, vegies) into my bowl and then ladle in the broth. I drink the broth first, then finish by eating the solid stuff. This way I'm not drinking with my meal. :cursing: With chili, I just ladle out 1 cup and eat as is.

My family eats exactly as I do and meals are usually pretty much the same - Protein fixed in a variety of ways (baked, broiled, steamed or Foreman grilled), steamed or roasted vegies and potatoes, rice, Beans or Pasta.

I only fix dessert when we have company.

Hi:

You might want to break out your crockpot and look for some good, simple recipes. Crockpot with meat and veggies and some type of sauce works very well for the band. Seems to make most meats very tender!

Pulled bbq pork sandwich (open face on whole wheat sandwich thin) with just a smidge of coleslaw. I'll also have a salad blend w/spinach and low fat basamic dressing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
