How much weight should I be losing before I hit my sweet spot?

Recommended Posts

I have been following my diet and exercising but haven't lost any weight beyond the initial pre-surgery diet and right after surgery. However, I haven't lost any weight since. Surgery was 8/24.

I know all experiences are individual, but many people seem to be losing some weight while waiting for their sweet spot fill.

Should I be losing weight, even just a teenie bit, or does that not really start until my sweet spot fill?

Thanks!!!

Kab,

The sweet spot will not help you lose weight except in how it controls your intake. So if you're already dieting (controlling your intake) and exercising, you should have lost something over the last 2 months. I would suggest logging everything you eat into something like Fitday.com to make sure there are no hidden calories that are boosting you above the 1200 mark.

First thing comes to mind is if you have been exercising you may be losing weight (fat) and building muscle (which weighs more than fat). How do your clothes fit? Do you feel more energetic? Do you sleep better? Always remember that the # on the scale is only one measure of success....

I went through a phase where I wasn't really losing anything and then all of a sudden dropped like 7 pounds in a month. Remember that your body is trying to adjust itself constantly. It is used to getting more and burning calories and it takes a while for it to realize that. As you pointed out, the "sweet spot" is very individual (in terms of how much you need in the band to be in the green zone) but also it is a moving target for you. Say you feel good restriction at 8 cc and then you lose 10 more pounds, your stomach has shrank too and so what was once good restriction is now just a little less and you may need to go in for an adjustment (which is what just happened to me....).

you are doing great...good luck...katie

I wonder if you need to increase the intensity/duration and or frequency of your workouts. Are you breaking a sweat? You should be. It's fine to start off slow, but you want to keep increasing a bit at a time. Journaling on paper or into a computer program is also great advice. I did it for about the first 4 months after surgery. I stopped when it became second nature to me. Good luck! Try to be patient, that scale will move for sure if you are doing the right things (eating low fat/low carb. and working out).

It depends on how you approach things. If you wait to reach restriction before modifying your eating, you won't lose until you hit your sweet spot.

OTOH, you can eat as though you have restriction from Day One, and lose steadily throughout your journey. That's the approach I've taken. I've consistently lost about 2.5 pounds/week from the beginning.

ETA: I have to agree that exercise is a critical, critical part of the equation for me, as well.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
