At what point do i stop eating?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 months post op. I got a 4th fill last Tuesday. Now when i eat about 2 bites i feel like i am stuck. The food does go down, and i have to concentrate on small bites and waiting in between bites. After that stuck feeling passes, i can eat a few more bites. I am just wondering if i got to much fill this time. It is harder to eat now, than before my last fill. Should i be experiencing that pressure or stuck feeling?

your 4th fil in 2 months??? i got fils every 6-8 weeeks, that just seems like a lot. anyway.... you have to take very very tiny bites and put down your fork inbetween bites, take your time I had a hard time in the begining, I was eating too fast and taking to big of a bite. Just give yourself time between bites to let the food go down, eat slow and when you full you stop....good luck and take it slow:thumbup:

You could be a little tight. A slight unfill may make you feel much better. I hesitated every time I needed an unfill and suffered longer than I should have. Best wishes!

If you are very uncomfortable with this fill level, get a slight unfill.

But, I always have an adjustment period after a fill where I need to learn the needs of the new fill level.

Take VERY small bites, chew them very well. Take a break between bites. If food is going down then you are getting nutrition and hydration.

But if you are miserable, it isn't worth it.

I feel exactly the same way you are describing - alternatively THIS IS TOO TIGHT and OH CRAP, I AM FINALLY REALLY BANDED. I have gone from never having a PB to having one daily.... but today was better than yesterday and I am indeed being slower and taking more time - so I am going to give it 10 days for the swelling to go down and then see where I am at.

Try having a cup of hot tea before your meal. That should relax your band just a little bit and make it easier to eat. Bites should be the size of a english pea or a pencil eraser. Chew until liquid. Put fork down between bites.

If you start getting stuck to the point of throwing up.. you're definitely too tight and need an unfill.

If it hurts to eat.. you need an unfill.

If all you want to eat are slider foods (yogurt, pudding, Protein drinks, soups).. you may need an unfill.

(good grief.. this sounds like "you may be a redneck" jokes.. hahaha)

Treat eating softer foods for a few days. Everytime we get stuck, we irritate the banded area which may cause swelling, which may cause even more things to get stuck.

My doc said to measure out what I *should* be eating and take no longer than 20-30 minutes to eat it. *Never* drink with your meals. I can drink right up until I take that first bite and then nothing for 30 minutes after my last bite. When I've been stupid enough to disregard that advice, I'm instantly stuck.

I just had another fill this morning putting me at 8cc and the nurse reminded me to 'be kind to your band' for a few days. Since I've already done the overfill, constant sliming/stuck episodes to the point where I couldn't eat anything but sliders, I'm sticking to soft foods and mushies for a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
