Had Surgery Oct 7 2010 - Scrape in mouth

Recommended Posts

Hi:

I was banded Oct 7 2010 and have a sore spot on roof of my mouth. It kind of looks like a scrape, do you think it's possible the anesthesia tube scraped the roof of my mouth? I felt the soreness but just saw the spot last night I had been thinking it was just sore throat from the surgery until I saw the spot.

It is white and reminds me of when I had strep throat but not in the same spot as strep throat, just same color. Does white mean infection?

I do plan to contact my doctors office on Monday, but just wondered if anyone else had a clue :)

I am still bloated and swollen 9 days from surgery.

I have a 10cc band, they said they put 3cc in it during surgery. I'm having trouble getting all my liquids in, do you think it's because the band isn't empty and I'm still healing from swelling?

Ugh. I tried to search for my answer and not do a post surgery question, but couldn't find an answer for my throat question.

The breathing tube is plastic, so unlikely. It does have a thin metal rod in it that is removed once the tube is in place, but no sharp edges. But the laryngoscope (the tool used to open the mouth and visualize the vocal chords during intubation) is metal. However, the "blade" curves downwards towards your tongue, so I'm having a hard time picturing it scraping the roof of your mouth. Anything is possible, though.

White doesn't necessarily mean infected. Are you sure it's nit canker sores? Either way, I'd call your surgeon. You can try swishing warm Water with baking soda in your mouth and see if it helps.

It could be a scratch that bacteria got in. That will make it white. I'm in the dental biz and we tell people to rinse with salt Water. Most injuries in the mouth will heal in 7-10 days. If it does not, a trip to the dentist might be a good idea. They deal with the mouth more than any medical Dr. I hope it feels better soon.

I had one after my surgery too and I asked my doctor about it.

He said I had a small mouth and they had to use some kind of contraption to hold my mouth open to intubate me during the surgery. I guess that's where it was pressed or something and I didn't think to ask more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
