It went smoothly. No problems with IV, etc. Felt great.

I had to have a hernia repair that was unexpected so my surgery took 1 hour instead of 30 mins. Surgeon repaired and banded. He also filled my band with 4ccs. I have had no problems with drinking liquids. Yesterday I drank Water, crystal light and a small amount of chicken broth.

Here is where I get honest. The pain for me has been bad. I have had very sharp stabbing pain from the gas in my left shoulder, neck and it radiates into my ear. I am walking, doing arm circles and stretches. I am also taking Gas-X. This pain has been the worst. I came home with a nausea patch behind my ear that causes really bad dry mouth. So, I have also been sucking on these little Nerd brand hard candies (I am using something small incase I accidently swallow before it dissolves). I still dry heaved several times (which scares you to death) but felt better afterwards. Last night's sleep was fitful at best but I am coping. Yesterday was rough but I mentally knew it would past, I just had to keep telling my body.

Today, I look better but I am still dealing with shoulder pain (not as bad as yesterday). My stomach area is very sore now and I also feel it in my back. Rest is tough. I am going to try and not take prescription pain meds and keep it to only advil. I suffer from Migraines and narcotics have been known to trigger my headaches--I just don't want to risk it.

So far, that's it. I am a big baby and this hurts. However, I knew it would and I am coping. Everyday should get better :)

Good Luck-

CB

I've attached a picture of my incisions. Sorry for the quality, I took it with my blackberry phone.

You're not alone. I was banded on the 11th and I had awful, awful gas pain until about the 5th day. I still had some today but it is bearable. I walked and sipped and walked and walked and walked. I took Gas X strips and that did nothing. I took the chewables and that did nothing. So just hang in there... it does get better! :)

I was banded on the 12th. I also had to have a hernia repair which was not known before surgery so my surgery took almost 3 hours. I guess the hernia was quite challenging. anyway it is over and I also had horrible shoulder pain for 2 days. Yesterday was better and today has been almost non-existent. I have had broth, Protein Shakes and Jello but my doctor said that if you dont have to chew it, you can have it. I thought I should be on a stricter liquid diet than that.

I am going to puree some Soup in a bit and see if I can tolerate that. I cant say I am starving but I am a little hungry and I am getting bored with my selections already. I have taken in calories of 510, 530, and yesterday only 390. Surely I need to have more than that. I can tell I have lost some weight but I know it is mostly Water cause I can tell that my stomach still has gas in it by the way it is sticking out. lol also no BM yet. :wink2: When should I worry about that?

Hope you all are having a good day so far. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
