Could I be harming myself?

Recommended Posts

I am 13 days out and am hungry in between meals. I will be getting a fill 10/25 and realize the hunger is to be expected even with adequate Protein intake etc.

I am still on soft mushies, however, I am inclined to eat some regular foods. I have had salad greens a couple of times and tonite some 100cal popcorn. Could this cause me problems? Please don't scold me, I am a bit sensitive right now.

Hi,

Instead of popcorn, try to eat grits, oatmeal, mash potatoes, something that is very thin - not thick. Your band is becoming a part of your body and you want to give it time to heal and settle in.

If you need crunchy, try ice?

Good luck on your journey!

I have no idea if you're causing yourself harm. Don't know your medical history or exactly how your doc secured your band. I can tell you that some people get stuck on salad. popcorn is a slider food and will tend to make you HUNGRIER in the long run.

Try as hard as you can to stick to the program your doctor has set for you.. and call the office on Monday for guidance on these foods.

I know it's tough.. hang in there as best you can.

I think at 13 days I would try to schedule your eating so that you have something every couple hours. For example at that point I was on full liquids and then mushies as of day 15. I would have a cup of Soup and a couple hours later a Protein Shake or cottage cheese or ricotta. 100 calories of Protein will sustain you longer than 100 calories of carbs. I agree with a previous poster that the post op diet is meant to allow your body to heal. The more solid the food you eat the more your stomach needs to churn to digest it.

Not scolding, just offering the observation that the foods you're choosing are not among those that really would increase satiety.

I totally understand the salad--the whole time I was "off" vegetables, the one thing I craved more than anything was salad.

I don't think either food will harm you. They chew down to nothing. But on the other hand, they don't really offer any sort of staying power.

If you're genuinely hungry, you'd be better off choosing a bit more of the soft Protein you're allowed. Or adding a Protein shake once or twice a day.

During the liquid and mushy phases my Dr. recommended eating

5 or 6 small "meals" a day. Being able to eat every couple hours verses every 5 or 6 made all the difference in the world for me.

I know it's tough right now, but hang in there. It's does get better. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
