Muscle Milk?

Recommended Posts

Ok - so I'm a little freaked out right now. I drink muscle milk almost every day for Breakfast. Been doing that for a while now. Well, someone said that there are warnings against muscle milk due to metals content, etc.

My nutritionist knows I drink it and has never said anything. (She's a good nutritionist) I had never heard ANYTHING about it and did look it up and seems that Consumer Reports did a study but they based it on 3 servings. I only drink 1 per day.

Does anyone have any opinions, experience, etc? I've been totally fine with it, but am sort of worried. If you have been warned against it or on the other hand, told it's fine, please let me know.

Muscle Milk light is on the approved list my nutritionist gave me.

I think there were a few other brands included in that particular study besides Muscle Milk (Myoplex was one of them I believe). I don't really drink Protein Drinks too often, so I'm not sure what I would do. I find Muscle Milk to be one of the better tasting Protein drinks; if I only drank them once in a while I wouldn't worry, but if I drank them all the time...I don't know. I hope you come up with a good solution!

I drink Muscle Milk from time to time, but regularly use other supplements because it is so $$$. It was high on the metals list but so long as you're not drinking three a day most days of the week I wouldn't freak out about it.

I agree with BamBam. I read the article a few times and have come to the same conclusion. We ingest many things we don't know about but I think as long as we keep our Fluid intake high we can flush a lot of these things through fairly quickly.

I, too, experienced anxiety when I read the article and didn't buy any MM the other day when I was going to. Maybe CR will run a follow up and find that the companies fixed the problem...I will watch for such an article.

Thanks everybody. I talked to my nutritionist and she basically said it was no big deal unless I was drinking 3 a day, 7 days a week. I'm not so I'm not going to worry about it. I have a feeling regular soda is probably worse than Muscle Milk. LOL!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
