32910 0 Posted October 14, 2010 So, I was banded 6.5 months ago and I am down 74 pounds. I have 7 cc in a 14 cc large ap band. This past week I have been eating more than usual (still pales in comparison to how I used to eat, but still!) and I thought I needed a fill sooner than later (I had an appt. scheduled for 11/9) so I made one for 10/19. Tonight I ate some broccoli, I guess too quickly and vomitted violently a few times. Now I am re-thinking things that perhaps I just need to slow down, maybe I can wait for the fill? Other concerns I have are not drinking enough water- I just cannot seem to get anywhere near 64 oz. in. Additionally, I know it is crazy of me, but I still feel like getting sick reminds me that I still need a lot of work on the mental part of things...I apparently don't know how to keep things in check still, after almost 6.5 months out. (*headdesk*) I also worry that if I am half way to my fill capacity and I still need to lose like 85 pounds, am I going to make it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. vlp1968 83 Posted October 14, 2010 I don't think thowing up once means you don't need a fill. Broccolli is a food I cut out since it gave me trouble. Also, as you said, you may have eaten it too fast. I would work on slowing down and see how things go. When it gets closer to your appt. you can decide if you need a fill or not. BetsyB 9 Posted October 14, 2010 I'd like to add that your concern that the amount of Fluid you have in your band will not "last" (with fills) until you've lost all the weight you want to lose is likely unfounded. You will reach a level of good restriction. It may fluctuate a little, as you lose weight (the size of the fat pad on the stomach itself can decrease), but there's a good chance that you will require very little adjustment once you achieve restriction. So, you'll be able to continue to lose--and then, to maintain--without worrying about running out of "room" for fills. I agree--a stuck episode every now and then isn't a good gauge of whether you need a fill. Broccoli gives me trouble, too; I use broccoli slaw now. (It's made from the stems; the fuzzy crowns are like Velcro in my stomach, and clog me up every time!)
32910 0 Posted October 14, 2010 I moved my appt. back to 11/9 for the fill and I am going to concentrate on making some softer food choices and slower eating for the next couple of months. I didn't realize that broccoli could be such a problem...I guess I haven't eaten it in a while. Going to have some Soup tonight. Thanks so much for the reply. 32910 0 Posted October 14, 2010 Betty- I just worry that it will be all full and I still won't be at my goal weight, you know? I am definitely still losing and I have good restriction, I think. I look at the solids sample diet that my surgeon gave me and there is no way I eat as much that is on there, and I am still satisfied and losing. I guess I am getting closer to the 'green zone'? It is still sort of new to me, I guess. I also have no motivation to exercise, whatsoever. I am not a couch potato, but I've never been so hot at following an exercise routine. Thanks so much for the reply, it is good to have found this site.
Bree99 1 Posted October 14, 2010 You don't lose weight just because of fills. When you find a level of restriction you are comfortable at you might stay there for years- and still lose and then maintain. It is time to start walking. Start with 15 minutes a day and go slowly. You will feel better within a week, I promise. Get a friend to go with you. Your weight loss will steadier and you will be more confident in reaching your goals. I'd be really interested in seeing your sample diet. Would you be willing to post / e-mail it? Thx.
