One day post-op, can't decide if I am petrified or excited

Recommended Posts

Well, My name is Britt I am 20 and yesterday I had my band inserted, 10/12/10. My Dr. was great, I stayed overnight to prevent clotting. I just got home this after noon and I am having a bit of a panic issue. I have played hockey my whole life and I guess the way I am feeling now is making me worry I won't be able to live normal. Does anyone else play any pretty rough sports? my doctor said I would be able to, but I guess I am just being a baby lol. I am experiencing pretty painful gas in my stomach and pains from the gas in my chest. Trying to walk as much as possible but my meds make me just pass out! I was told it is normal to feel some regret but once you start to feel human again things get better, did anyone else feel this???

Thanks!!

Britt

Congrats on the surgery. It will get better. You can use a heating pad on your chest and try Gas - X strips for the gas.

You just get some sleep and chill for the next few days. I cried the night of surgery and told my husband that I made a huge mistake. 11 pounds and two weeks later with my shorts sliding off my hips and I'm doing just fine. You will feel better by next Tuesday.

Thanks so much for the replies, I needed it so bad. I have been home crying all night. I am glad I am not the only one who was scared after, not just before.

You have made a HUGE change in your life and that is always scary. The worst part is over and you just need to give yourself a break and some time to heal. I am 2 weeks out tomorrow and I feel great!

You are fine.

I expected to PB on day one and was very anxious. But nothing happened. I could hear a girgle when I drank alot of Fluid, but that was it.

Once I got passed the first few days I felt normal again. I am still surprised that if I follow the liquid diet (I have full liquid for week 2 and pureed for weeks 3-6) I am really not hungry. I expected to be passing out from lack of nutrients. Wonders never cease to amaze me.

No worries Britt... I got banded 9/30 and I felt the same way. I feel a whole lot better. I'm about my normal self. I do still have a little pain in my left shoulder/neck area.... But 15lbs lighter and I'm getting happier by the day. Just remember to please take your pain meds. I thought I was going to be brave and stop taking them MISTAKE! Hang in there ....

Hi there! I was banded 10/11/10 the day before you lol....and have been having the same thoughts and probs with gas and pain. I guess it also has to do with an entire life change and that is scary too! I am sure we will both be ok and in a few weeks will be back on here chatting about how happy we are like everyone else lol. Just keep up the fluids and rest, each day it gets better at least a little lol

Hahaha, cool! My 21st birthday was actually the 11th. So I spent me birthday dealing with the effects of a bottle of mag citrate hahaha, that stuff was wicked!! The gas sucks.. really bad... I sure hope so. I had to stay overnight Tuesday in the hospital and the nurses little station was right outside my room and they were so loud all night I got no sleep at all. It was refreshing to sleep in my own bed last night with peace and quiet. I took off my band aids today and I felt like a baby. the incisions are so itty bitty lol! I am glad to have someone to talk to who's surgery date was so close to mine!! Did you have staples, glue or stitches??

I had my surgery on October 11th and my gas pains are just now starting to go away. They're still there and still kicking my butt... but apparently everyone is right and slow and surely it does it get better!

I'm keeping you in my thoughts for a quick recovery!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
