Question about adding unflavored protein to FOOD

Recommended Posts

Many people on this site really recommend the PURE Unflavored Protein powder on Bariatriceating. com

Here's the link:

PURE Unflavored Protein Isolate - 21 servings per container - perfect for Soup

It took me a while to give in and try it, but I was really happy that I finally gave in and bought some. You can hardly taste it! It's way better than the flavored protein!

Now... mixing the protein in with food/drink... i found out the hard way that it's important to first mix it in a small amount of Water before adding it to whatever it is your making! I usually mix it up in one of them bottles for Protein shakes with a little whisk in it... once all the chunks are gone I add it to whatever I want!

You should definitely give it a try!

I found a non and vanilla 100% soy Protein flavor at a local store called big lots here in birmingham al.. The name of the protein is "naturade". It was $4.99 for a 14.8 oz. Can. When mixed it taste pretty good. I have made a chicken broth Protein Drink out of the non-flavor and it was pretty good and very satisfying. If you happen to put a little to much protein, just add a little Water or more broth.

I've been thinking about trying that but the shipping to my area for one container is almost $12.00! I wish there were a cheaper option:(

Yeah, I wasn't too happy about the price and having to pay for shipping as well. LOL But I'm extremely picky...! LOL So I gave in... and I can't say I regret it. Worth the money in my case.

I don't work for them or anything but they also sell their stuff at certain stores, maybe you can try to see if there's one near you?

I use PURE from Bariatric Eating.

You can not heat it in food. You have to temper the Protein so it doesn't denature (clump).

To do this, first stir in a bit of the liquid (or food) at room temp (or cold). Just enough to make a paste. Then, heat the liquid until it's warm (not hot). Stirring constantly, add a bit of the warm liquid to the Protein. (The idea is to gradually warm it). Then heat the liquid (or food) until it's a bit hotter than the temp you want (because you're adding it to not-hot). Again, stirring constantly, add the hot liquid (or food) to the protein.

You don't have to be as meticulous if you're adding it to foods you eat cold. But do sprinkle it on gradually and stir a lot.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
