You're right, it is a struggle, especially when you don't have restriction. Sad to say you still have "bandster hell" to look forward to (unless you are one of the rare lucky ones - I wasn't). I would suggest that, if possible, you see an eating disorder therapist to help you sort out why/how you eat. It can be helpful to you while waiting to get to your "sweet spot". Also, a week out from surgery your body is still healing. The reason the docs give us a food plan is so that we don't do damage while healing.

Don't beat yourself up. Do take whatever steps necessary to get the help you need to understand and help you eat healthier so that you can reach your goal.

This is a great forum. Great suggestion/recommendations for any occasion. LOL

Be kind to yourself.

Deep breath..........Restart your whole way of thinking about food. You should be glad that your husband noticed so you have someone to be accountable to. You really should consider some therapy to help you deal with your emotions towards food. We all have our demons when it comes to food or none of would be where we are today. Consider therapy as a part of the total treatment. Too many people consider mental health as a taboo subject and think that they don't need help. It is just one aspect of your goal towards skinny!!! Call your doctor and ask for a list of therapists to talk to. You will feel so much better.

Talk to your doctor about food options that will help mitigate the damage of feeling hunger. I have never liked cottage cheese yet during recovery it tasted like the best thing EVER. I was able to buy non/low fat chive and pinapple flavors. Egg beaters are good as well lots of Protein no fat.

I am glad you realize it is a problem. Now you are aware that you need to work on it a little more.

Grazing was a big issue for me, i'd pick at things in the house. my solution was to get rid of EVERYTHING, I only keep what i'm preparing for actual meals and nothing else that's easily snackable. I gave away allllllll the things I knew I wouldn't be able to eat in moderation (i.e. popcorn!).

I've even come to realize, the small amount of mashed potatoes i've incorporated back into my diet have me craving sugar alllll the time. I've decided perhaps it's best to go cold turkey with bread, Pasta, and potatoes. I seemed to do better when it's just out of sight out of mind! I turn into a child with a halloween bucket full of candy when i'm around those pesky carbs. I just can't stop!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
