Hi there, I'm new to all this and will be attending a seminar on the 20th. When I signed up they asked who my insurance was through and I am just wondering ...what exactly do they do in the seminars? Should I make an appointment with the surgeon or should I wait until after the seminar? Not sure exactly where to begin??? Thanks!

Normally, the seminar is just informational. In mine, they talked about the different options for Bariatric surgery and then answered questions. My Dr's office would not allow me to make an appointment for my initial consultation until I attended the seminar, but I don't think every doctor has that same policy...you will need to contact the surgeon's office to find out for sure.

They give you lots of info at the seminars. You can ask and get all your questions answered. When I attended one, they made appts for some people at that time. I didn't make one at that time, but did later.

They will explain all the different weight loss surgery options out there. They will also explain how each one works and possibly show a film or slides to help you understand what it's all about.

Go to the seminar first, and decide about an appt at that time or think about everything you've learned and call them later.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Carol

Thanks to both of you! Just would like to get the process rolling but wasn't sure if I needed to wait until after the seminar. I've done a lot of research so I am pretty aware of what will be happening. Thanks again!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
