I sloughed when I was measured for my height, I wore baggy jeans & slightly bent one knee. It made me a whole inch shorter which really pushed up the BMI. I also think that several rolls of quarters is a great idea. Put them in the inside pockets of say like a jean jacket or or pants pockets & wear a large shirt. Once you are weighed you don't need to constantly be weighed again & again. Also I know they don't continue to remeasure your height.

Just keep in mind that just b/c you reach the correct BMI doesnt mean you get approval from your insurance always. But I say its worth the try before the large loan.

Well, you don't have to shove the quarters UP your butt, you just gotta get them in your pants! Like the old joke about the Polish guy who can't get a date (I can tell Polish jokes cuz I'm one.) The Polish guy asks the Italian guy how he gets so many dates, so the Irish guy tells him to put a potato in his pants. The next time the Pole saw the Irish dude, he said the women were staying even farther away from him, so the Irish guy said, "Well, you're supposed to put the potato in the FRONT!"

I say wear men's underwear and sew the front flap closed and pack it with Kare's idea of silver dollars!

For the most compact weigt, I think lead fishing weights are best. Just go to a camping store and check out what would be easiest to put in your pocket--or sew to the inside seam of your pants.

When I had my first info session, I stuffed quarters in my sports bra. Two rolls of quarters = one pound. I almost got busted though. The doctor went out into the hallway for a second and I whipped the quarters out of there. It was a good thing too, because right after that, he lifted up my shirt to show me where the surgical scars would be. LOL!

I've never seen fishing weights, but I'm wondering if you could even sew them inside your clothes somewhere with a stitch or two so they don't fall out.

ROFLMAO....can you imagine....ten bucks worth of quarters falling from your chest and you trying to figure out an explanation.

The weights are meant to be tied on to fishing lines so they have holes in them. There are all kinds of shapes and sizes.

No fishermen in this group?

Re quarter rolls... I could just see you deadpanning to your Dr--"Need some change?" or

"I TOLD him to leave it on the dresser."

I'd probably just say something like, "Now how did THAT get there??"

how about those travel weights that you fill with Water? Get a big bra and tuck those away in there.

In the 70's, while going to rock concerts, I would tie those leather canteens full of wine to the area between my knee and ankle, around the calf. Bell bottoms were in style then and they are now. This way may be riskier though.

be careful about putting anything in a jacket. my nurse made me take off my shoes and jacket. if she/he asks you to pull your shirt just act really shy about showing any bra area (if you have weights there).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
