First day back to work

Recommended Posts

and I'm exhausted! I was banded last Wednesday (10/06/10). Everything has gone very well, no need for much pain med. I'm really not in pain, just a little sore; but, I'm definitely tired! I feel like I have no energy. I feel full after I drink even a few sips of a shake, so I know I'm not getting many calories each day. I know this will pass, and I will make it - but right now I'm thinking "what have I done?" Taking off any more time from work isn't an option. I work at a desk so my job isn't strenuous, thank God!

I'm sure that once I can get in more calories I will regain some energy. Anyone have any suggestions or just positive comments for me? :puke:

When are you returning? I have a desk job, also. It still was not easy. Get up and move around as much as possible. I drank Special K protien Water mix. It gives 5g without the thickness of a shake. The fatigue will get better with time. Each day will show improvement.

Keep yourself hydrated and moving, can you do half days?

I'm back to work today and I am trying to move around. Problem is, I haven't told anyone here (except my three closest workmates) that I even had the surgery. So, while I am trying to walk around, I have to do that without looking like I'm moving too slowly! It would be comical if I felt like laughing! Here I am wanting to move slowly and can't, I have to act normal! Everyone is asking me - "how was your vacation" and I have to say, "oh great, had a great time"! It really is almost funny except it hurts to laugh. And, to top it all off, today is the first day I've worn a bra since last week and I find that one of my incisions is right under my freakin' underwire! Good grief, the plight of an overweight woman, geesh!

Omg I feel ya. I too kept a bra off for a week and almost cried when I put it back on. Sat right on top of my incision too. Lol. Whoa I cringed reading that part..made me remember that. Well I had to go back to work pretty quick too..and felt like I would fall asleep any moment..just try and get as much fluids as possible and I agree that special k Protein mix was my best friend. Good luck..ull make it!!

Oh dear! I am laughung with you, not at you. That was a speedy return. You could say you injured something on vacation, thus are moving slowly. Seeing as I usually get sick or hurt on vacation, that would work for me. Make up a good and outlandish story about bungee jumping off the Great Wall or something.

Or you could use my true story, you went on vacation and ended up in the hospital having your appendix out! Or the time I went away and broke my wrist. Or had the flu on my honeymoon. Bronchitis on a cruise. Sinus infection on a work trip, after which I ended up with a horrible intestinal infection (c. Diff.) after the antibiotics.

Ok, enough of that, I hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh, and maybe you can put some tissue under the underwire to pad it. Then get a loose sports bra!

Sounds like we are in a very similar situation!

I was banded last Tuesday and am planning on going back to work tomorrow (which I'm kinda dreading - I work a desk job, but it's fairly stressful and I work 11 hour days, including lunch which I typically do at my desk).

I also only told about 3 people at work about my surgery. I figured it's not their business. When I get back, when people ask (and they will) I will simply say I was on sick leave (true) and I'm ok, but not feeling 100% - that should cover any questions about why I'm moody or slow, or exhausted. I'm not sure if I will wear my tummy binder to work, I generally feel better with it on, but it's harder to move in it, not to mention bulky.

As for the bra- I had a flash of genius before my surgery and bought two Bali underwire-free bras (at Kohls) which offer support and no wires... my uppermost incision is well below my underwire line, but I want to be as comfortable as possible, and sometimes my bras hurt anyways.

I'm also not able to eat/drink much. I can technically move on to mushy foods tomorrow, but seeing as i'm barely at 250 calories per day as it is I think I will take a few extra days of liquid. I'm able to do one SlimFast shake a day (and it takes 2-3 hours to down) and maybe a pudding or something. I just feel full and/or "sluhsy" all the time. I know this will pass, and also know I should eat more, but I don't want to get back in the habit of eating when I'm not hungry.

Best of Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
